subscribe forum link on the top of topic list

Post by Marek Muc »

Hi All, I’d like to make a slight modification to the layout of my board and I’d appreciate your help. Namely, I’d like to move the “subscribe forum” link to the top of page so that it’s more prominent. How to place it e.g. next to the “new topic” button that appears on the top of topic list? I’m a noob but I’m able to make changes and FTP php/html/css files when given instructions ;) I’m using prosilver and (still) phpBB 3.2. Thank you in advance

open viewforum_body.html and find <!-- IF S_DISPLAY_SEARCHBOX --> and above it paste this code

Code: Select all

		<!-- IF U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK and not S_IS_BOT -->
			<li data-last-responsive="true">
				<a href="{U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK}" title="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}" data-ajax="toggle_link" data-toggle-class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" data-toggle-text="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}" data-toggle-url="{U_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}">
					<i class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" aria-hidden="true"></i><span>{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}</span>
				</a>
			</li>
		<!-- ENDIF -->
Save it
Upload it
Purge the cache in the ACP and your browser.
The link should appear between New Topic button and serach box

and remember you will have to redo this edit every time you update/upgrade.

so, make a note of the exact changes you made and save it somewhere.

thank you! I also deleted the original subscribe button in the navbar_footer as they were not synchronised when they were present in two places (i.e. after clicking on 'subscribe' next to search box, the original button in the navbar footer did not take note of the subscription)

I'm not able to make any reasonable CSS adjustment though and this button appears out of place a bit due to original styling. If someone would be so kind and suggest any CSS tweaks I'd even more grateful...

This is how it looks on my board:

but obviously registration is needed to see the subscribe button, answer to Q&A challenge is: IAS7

Registration requires an e-mailadress!
It would be more friendly to provide a testaccount.

try changing this code you entered before

Code: Select all

<!-- IF U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK and not S_IS_BOT -->
	<li data-last-responsive="true">
		<a href="{U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK}" title="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}" data-ajax="toggle_link" data-toggle-class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" data-toggle-text="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}" data-toggle-url="{U_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}">
			<i class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" aria-hidden="true"></i><span>{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}</span>
		</a>
	</li>
<!-- ENDIF -->
to something like this and see if that works

Code: Select all

<!-- IF U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK and not S_IS_BOT -->
	<li data-last-responsive="true">
		<a class="button button-icon-only" href="{U_WATCH_FORUM_LINK}" title="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}" data-ajax="toggle_link" data-toggle-class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" data-toggle-text="{S_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}" data-toggle-url="{U_WATCH_FORUM_TOGGLE}">
			<i class="icon <!-- IF S_WATCHING_FORUM -->fa-square-o<!-- ELSE -->fa-check-square-o<!-- ENDIF --> fa-fw" aria-hidden="true"></i><span class="sr-only">{S_WATCH_FORUM_TITLE}</span>
		</a>
	</li>
<!-- ENDIF -->
basically adding the button classes and making the text screen readers only

thank you, styling looks great now, but the description is gone (it's just an icon now) - can I have both? :)
