Change unread topics titles colour

Post by timeforhelp1 »

Ok many moons ago I made some core changes to some of the templates, it last worked in 3.0.
I have no problem editing like this as I can always edit back after an update.

What I would want is for unread topics for the title to say be red on view forum and also on the index for the forums tile as well.

2 threads where I had it before and to show you what I mean...
viewtopic.php?f=74&t=721175&start=0
And...
viewtopic.php?f=481&t=2279646

My users are so used to it and desperately want it back, any chance?

For instance...
viewforum_body.html
<a href="{topicrow.U_VIEW_TOPIC}" class="topictitle" <!-- IF topicrow.S_UNREAD_TOPIC -->style="color: #BF3556"<!-- ENDIF -->>

forumlist_body.html
<a href="{forumrow.U_VIEWFORUM}" class="forumtitle" <!-- IF forumrow.S_UNREAD_FORUM -->style="color: #BF3556"<!-- ENDIF -->>{forumrow.FORUM_NAME}</a>

active topics
search_results.html
<a href="{searchresults.U_VIEW_TOPIC}" class="topictitle" <!-- IF searchresults.S_UNREAD_TOPIC -->style="color: #BF3556"<!-- ENDIF -->>

Do you mean something like Red title for new topic and new reply
The extension I linked to is for phpBB3.2 but AFAIR there's something similar for 3.3
Spelling is freeware, which means you can use it for free.
On the other hand, it is not open source, which means you cannot change it or publish it in a modified form.

Announcements are by default in a seperated (top) part of a forum (although this pay depend on the style).
Stickies are normally at the top of the (non-announcement) section.
I'm sure creating some space between stickies and the "normal" posts could be accomplished with a small style edit.

You'd have to edit the markup. It's not really something that CSS alone would happily deal with (yes, I have thought of it before).

Which version did you install originally and to which version did you update? I only see a version103 for phpBB 3.2
If it was caused by that (or another) extension: use
https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... s-at-once/
Then check whether an updated version is available (IIRC correctly there was also another extension with the same functionality).

Never, ever blindly install an extension!
Always check the extension topic to see whether the extension is suited for your phpbb version (and whenever you try something unknown, make sure you have a recent backup just in case) (something to remember since you are using phpBB 3.2 and will eventually upgrade - read all the documents to avoid potential pitfalls).

I has a quick look at viewforum.php and viewforum_body.html just now and yes, you're right. It ain't as simple as I thought :(

Hang on a minute. I just thought of something (makes me a while sometimes). You can do it just with CSS, within limits. The limits will be what sort of specific styling you want applied. If you just want a gap between the last sticky and the first normal topic, this will do it:

Code: Select all

.row.sticky + .row:not(.sticky) {
	margin-top: 2em;
}
You can eye candy away from there. For example:

Code: Select all

.row.sticky + .row:not(.sticky) {
	margin-top: 2em;
	box-shadow: 0 -2em 0 #fffa;
}
Edited for typo.
