Topic cement

Post by Extensions Robot »

Modification name: Topic cement
Author: Elglobo
Modification description: This MOD allows the members authorized (permission local/global 'm_set_priority') to give a priority on certain topics.
By default priority is zero; all topics with a priority of zero are sorted as they always have been: first by type, then by date of last post.
This mod inserts a new sort: first by type, then by priority (descending), and then by date of last post.
Modification version: 1.0.1
Tested on phpBB version: 3.0.5

Download file: Topic_cement_v1.0.1.zip
File size: 59.06 KiB

There is a Bug in v1.0.0 with the last page in a forum where priorities was used.
Open viewforum.php and search:

Code: Select all

    ORDER BY t.topic_type " . ((!$store_reverse) ? 'DESC' : 'ASC') . ', t.topic_priority DESC, ' . $sql_sort_order;

Replace by:

Code: Select all

	ORDER BY t.topic_type " . ((!$store_reverse) ? 'DESC' : 'ASC') . ', t.topic_priority ' . ((!$store_reverse) ? 'DESC' : 'ASC') . ', ' . $sql_sort_order;

This is a brilliant mod :D .

This has been requested several times & will be of great benefit to those that want to give their topics a specific order within a forum, e.g:-

Date order for upcoming or past events,
Chapter order for 'on screen books',
Section number order for legislation,
...... and many more uses.

I have been using it for a few weeks now since downloading it from phpBBhacks.com. I have a glitch which it is not obvious why it is occurring.

I have tried ordering a forum for past events that have occurred over the past year, by setting priorities based on dates, e.g:-

108 for an event on 8 January,
319 for an event on 19 March,
1124 for an event on 24 November.

A problem that I found is that once I got onto the third page of ordered events / threads (i.e. over 100) then I started to lose sight of some in viewforum.

There doesn't seem to be any obvious reason for this & I can still see them in the mod control panel.

Any ideas?

I've just replicated my problem by creating a new forum & set the forum so it shows 5 topics per page.

I then created 20 topics, numbers 1 to 20.

I have given topics 6 to 20 priorities of 6 to 20 & left topics 1 to 5 with priorities of 0.

Viewforum shows the following: -

Page 1 topics 20 to 16 (correct)
Page 2 topics 15 to 11 (correct)
Page 3 topics 10 to 6 (correct)
Page 4 topics 16 to 20 (incorrect)

Topics 1 to 5 can’t be see at all in viewforum!

Hi,

with this MOD you can set the order of topics on viewforum page manually. The topics are displayed depending on their priority, not by their post time. (Only topics with standard priority appear in the order of last post's date.)

Here are some screenshots: http://www.phpbbhacks.com/demos/8537.gif

This mod is what i was looking for weeks!

...but... i'm not sure i'm able to install...

In the first part of the instructions, after "SQL", there are two lines:

Code: Select all

ALTER TABLE phpbb_topics ADD topic_priority SMALLINT DEFAULT '0' NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE phpbb_topics ADD INDEX (topic_priority);
...err... what should i do with them? :oops:
