Admin Activation E-Mail Enhancement

Postby Darth Wong » Mon Mar 16, 2009 8:28 pm

Oops, I didn't even realize this mod had been added to the database until I checked just now. I submitted it a long time ago and then phpbb.com went down because of a security problem shortly afterwards (not in connection to anything I did!), so I never knew if it got added or if it got lost.

I installed the MOD and I did not see any changes to the emails that were sent out. I tested the change info and nothing changed either?

Are there any other common errors with this MOD yet?
Enjoy;

Well done! Great mod, it saves me a few steps when trying to validate users from a mobile phone.
Since I don't allow username changes, I only performed the first section of the mod. Works fine.
Thanks!

Once this MOD is installed what would be the best way to see if it is correctly installed?

Is there an admin interface to customize things?

I have the same question as above. Installed it and like many others "POOOOF!" it's no where to be found.

I did a test Registration and got the same "dumb" email that I always get.

Code: Select all
Username: "Reg. ID"
E-mail: "name@xxxxx.xxx"
Registered on: Thu Jun 11, 2009 6:25 am

The Site Name. http://MY-SITE.xxx

Exactly the same as before I installed it. I was hoping for somthing more like the notification that we got from phpBB2 At least that had a link to the registered members profile.

HELP!

Not to ask silly questions, but did you do the code changes to ucp_register.php, ucp_profile.php, and ucp_resend.php? Dropping in the new E-mail language files doesn't do anything unless you edit those UCP scripts.

Same question as for the previous person: I don't know how you installed the mod, but if you did it by hand, did you remember to make the changes to the UCP scripts? If you didn't, then it will ignore the new E-mail language files.

It seems like it should be possible. I didn't know why anyone would want to do that. However, it seems like it should be a fairly simple change. Open up includes/ucp/ucp_register.php and find the line:

'USER_EMAIL' => htmlspecialchars_decode($data['email']),

After that line, add:

'PASSWORD' => htmlspecialchars_decode($data['new_password']),

Now open up language/en/email/admin_activate_newuser.txt and find the line:

Username: {USERNAME}

After that line, add:

Password: {PASSWORD}

And then try registering as a fake new user to test it. Bear in mind that I haven't tested this myself yet. I just whipped it up now in response to your post but I'm just saying that I think it should work :)

The only way to test it is to register a fake new user and then look at the admin activation E-mail you get.

As for an admin interface, there is none. Personally, I've always liked mods to be stripped down as much as possible. The bigger and more complicated a mod is, the trickier it is to install, the more likely it is to interfere with other mods or patches released for phpBB version upgrades, etc.

It was installed with 'AutoMod'

Thank you for your help. I uninstyalled it this am, if it doesn't give a link back to the 'newly registered members profile it's of no use. (to me) I can just as easily log on and look at the profile.

Again thank you for the time you put in.
