The zipped file has ten JPEG images that I've taken at my last trip to the beach, resized for captcha. The pictures are royalty free and you may use them if you wish so. They've been tested with James' Advanced Visual Anti Bot and phpBB 3.0.4 with no issues. The letters and numbers are somewhat easier to read, especially when the foreground noise is disabled. Just my subjective opinion...

Here's the bg0.jpg image:

Nice! I think adding more JPEGs can only help this MOD be more effective.

it works for me with php ver. 5.2.9 but not when running with php ver. 5.2.8..
php ver. 5.2.9 adds the GD enhancements..
Maybe that's it then. I've just checked and we're only on 4.4.9. I'll see if we can get it updated.

After fiddling with the settings, I find that if set to aggressively its not legible to anyone let along a bot. So I disabled the foreground noise and it seems to be easier to read.

I would like to see an option to tweak the foreground as well as the background so that users can adjust the captcha to taste.

Is there a way to add intelligence in answering like answering a question eg 2+2=? and the answer gets you in?

Yeah, that would kill all of the bots for if you rotate the question some.

Just download the file, and open the install file, easiest way just drag and drop it into your browser and follow the instructions.

If you want to change the images then simple just create your own (same size and file type and file name)

All my edits are in place, all the images are uploaded but I'm still having the same issue as a lot of other people. I'm not quite sure which version of PHP my server is running, but I assume that's the reason that mine and many others aren't working is due to possibly having an outdated version of PHP.

These are the options I have under General > Visual Confirmation Settings

Here you are able to define visual confirmation defaults and CAPTCHA settings.
General options

Enable visual confirmation for registrations:
Requires new users to enter a random code matching an image to help prevent mass registrations.
Enabled Disabled

Enable visual confirmation for guest postings:
Requires anonymous users to enter a random code matching an image to help prevent mass postings.
Enabled Disabled

Both are enabled.

Please enable GD CAPTCHA.

If you can not find this option, maybe GD Library is disabled on your server.

No, this mod does work on php v 4.4.9.
I've copied the database and put it into a new, freshly installed forum and it works ok on that.

Maybe it's conflicting with another mod?

lsjames wrote:This MOD can stop the majority of bots from registering to your forum.
But it can't stop the bots which have been activated from posting spam posts.
And it can't stop the human spammers.
Well, I've been running your MOD for a week and it stops the bots cold. There was one "human spammer" that was was rejected via the admin panel; the board requires approval for registration.
As far as my boards concerned, this MOD works just fine.
Thanks!
