This is a lifesaver. Thank you so much. It has been a little over a week now and still not one SPAM registration. Had to modify the instructions for ucp_register.html to work for my Dark Fantasy template, but all is good!

Your style is based upon subsilver2 and you've missed an edit. Find this...

Code: Select all

<td class="row2"><input class="post" type="text" name="confirm_code" size="8" maxlength="8" /></td>
and replace with this...

Code: Select all

<td class="row2"><input class="post" type="text" name="{ANTISPAM}" size="{CONFIRM_FIELD_SIZE}" maxlength="8" /></td>

I just wanted to add my thanks.

Spambots have virtually throttled the forum on my site and deleting a dozen or more was a daily chore I now seem to be able to forget.

I shouldn't count my chickens, perhaps, but after a few days there hasn't been a successful spambot registration.

To be fair, I felt I had to come back and say that I am still getting one or two spam registrations but I think that they are not bots but sad people with nothing better to do with their time than advertise porn sites.

the source code after instaling the mod looks like this

Code: Select all

<dt><label for="d4c0ae1d3f6178ba1ada4436a2e8d37c970ca0b0">Confirmation code:</label></dt>
<dd><img src="./ucp.php?mode=confirm&id=306e9c82274d3b763cbd6ad14e77ec07&type=1" alt="" title=""></dd>
<dd><input name="d4c0ae1d3f6178ba1ada4436a2e8d37c970ca0b0" id="d4c0ae1d3f6178ba1ada4436a2e8d37c970ca0b0" size="19" maxlength="8" class="inputbox narrow" title="Confirmation code" type="text"></dd>
Is that what we need to see? Is the d4c0ae1d3f6178ba1ada4436a2e8d37c970ca0b0 code that stops bots? If this is so then do I need the captcha image? I guess it is useless now, isn't it?

Your source code would have looked much the same before installing the MOD. What the MOD does can't be seen that easily. If it could then the BOTs would have it defeated in seconds.

As for disabling your CAPTCHA that's completely up to you. I've simply relaxed the settings in mine.

Outstanding! I was getting at least 10 spam registrations a day. Not one since I installed this! Thanks!

I know this is very elementary but where do I install this mod? Do I upload it to the root of the directory of the forum?

KB: How to install a MODX Modification

Make sure you're using a good text editor that'll save your files in UTF8 without BOM. Notepad++ is recommended.
