I'm having a problem with the URL rewriting aspect of this mod.

The install has gone well and I'm able to create pages, but I can't seem to view the page with any sort of rewritten URL.

My forum is located at www.mysitename.com/forum, so if I'm understanding the install file correctly, I should be able to make a page called "Test Page" and be able to view it at www.mysitename.com/forum/test-page, correct?

Yes, that is correct, however, the URL rewrite will only occur if you did the changes to your .htaccess file stated in the DIY instructions of the install.xml file.

Right....I've made the changes to .htaccess...several different ways in fact. First I tried it just as written in the instructions:

Code: Select all

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9\-\+]+)$ ./page.php?p=$1 [L]
That didn't work. Then I realized that since my .htaccess is in the site's root and my phpbb3 is at "/forum", I tried it like this:

Code: Select all

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9\-\+]+)$ ./forum/page.php?p=$1 [L]
That didn't work. Then I noticed the format of some of the other rewrite rules in my .htaccess (I have the SEO mod installed so there's several of these already there), and noticed that while they were similar to the lines if these instructions, they didn't tend to have the "." in the RewriteRule line, so I tried this:

Code: Select all

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9\-\+]+)$ /forum/page.php?p=$1 [L]
And once again, no dice.

So, any ideas where I've gone wrong??

@finallygreen

I don't use the URL rewrite so can't really help with that. Hopefully, someone who knows more about that side of things can help.

Is is possible to add a forum section to a static page? I want to install the top 5 or recent topic mod & have that forum section displayed on one of my static pages. Basically I'm trying to create a homepage using a static page. I'll keep my current homepage & just redirect users to the static page automatically. I am having a problem with my homepage not working correctly in some browsers & I'm doing this with the static page to resolve the issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Create another .htaccess in/forum and paste the necessary lines into it.

Code: Select all

RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9\-\+]+)$ ./page.php?p=$1 [L]

Can i offer a small updating of this mod? If someone used it MOD likely knows that the administrator of a forum becomes the author of all pages automatically. I offer the decision as it to correct. You will find a file of updating in archive

I'm trying to edit the .htaccess file for this mod to do the following:

Instead of it being www.testsite.com/forums/yourstaticpagehere I want it to be rewritten to www.testsite.com/yourstaticpagehere

Any way I can do that in the .htaccess file?

did this, and it's still not working :(

Can anyone help me troubleshoot this?

Here is what I have in my .htaccess file on the root of the forum directory and it works just perfect. Also this is right from the DIY Instructions from the install file. :D

Code: Select all

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^([A-Za-z0-9\-\+]+)$ ./page.php?p=$1 [L]
You have to tell it to turn the rewrite engine on otherwise it wont work. :D

I've done exactly as instructed and it simply won't work.

Could it be that this is incompatible with the Ultimate SEO mod?

Could be. Try disableing it and see what happens. I myself don't like SEO mods but that's just me.
