Great mod!!

Question I'v installed this MOD perfectly into my forum but is there a way when you create a user they can select a group to join on the same form?

May be as a drop down box for something?

Thanks in advance for any help with placing this code into a already great mod :)

Okay, maybe this might save you a few hours of frustration....

[I am no expert on phpBB nor a programmer. So take my suggestions with a grain of salt, but they worked for me. I am running 3.0.5]

After installing the main MOD of "ACP Add User", I decided I really wanted to set my own password and the ability to use a "default password" was even more appealing.

So I decided to then MOD THE MOD following what others have posted here; trying the follow-up post at the beginning (2nd or 3rd post in this thread) to add the "ability to see the password it auto generates" and to "add your own passwords instead of the auto generated" ones. I had problems.

I then read all 50+ pages of replies to determine that the best MOD of the MOD is really to follow "Ricky_Racer's post on page 43 or so. After trying that and really liking the potential features, I was extremely frustrated when I found another PROBLEM; It gave me the "password too short" error.

After deciding to start from scratch again and pay close attention to what I was actually replacing, I found two small errors (probably a copy/paste error) in Ricky's code (or what I believe to be errors).

Once I fixed those, it worked! So if you are trying this main MOD with the additions (MOD of the MOD) then I would suggest you follow the "Ricky_Racer" post with the following exceptions:

Error 1: Ricky indicates to find

Code: Select all

#------[ FIND ]-----------------------------------------------
#
# Tip: This may be a partial find and not the whole line.
#
// lets create a wacky new password for our user...
$new_password = str_split(base64_encode(md5(time() . $data['new_username'])), $config['min_pass_chars'] + rand(3, 5));
#
#------[ REPLACE WITH ]---------------------------------------
#
You really need to add a 3rd line to search on (and eventually replace). If you don't, you end up with the 3rd line of code being used instead of being commented out. So it should read:

Code: Select all

#------[ FIND ]-----------------------------------------------
#
# Tip: This may be a partial find and not the whole line.
#
// lets create a wacky new password for our user...
$new_password = str_split(base64_encode(md5(time() . $data['new_username'])), $config['min_pass_chars'] + rand(3, 5));
$data['new_password'] = $new_password[0];
#
#------[ REPLACE WITH ]---------------------------------------
#
# Tip: Replace the preceding line(s) to find with the following lines.
#
//-- mod replace : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] -----
		// lets create a wacky new password for our user...
		// since we will no longer be creating a random password we comment the following lines...
//		$new_password = str_split(base64_encode(md5(time() . $data['new_username'])), $config['min_pass_chars'] + rand(3, 5));
//		$data['new_password'] = $new_password[0];
		$new_password = $data['new_password'];
		$password_confirm = $data['password_confirm'];
		if($data['new_password'] == '')
		{
			$data['new_password'] == $default_pass;
		}
		else
		{
			$data['new_password'] == $new_password;
		}
		if($data['password_confirm'] == '')
		{
			$data['password_confirm'] == $default_pass;
		}
		else
		{
			$data['password_confirm'] == $password_confirm;
		}
//-- end replace : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] -----
Error 2: It says to find and then ADD, AFTER the following:

Code: Select all

#------[ FIND ]-----------------------------------------------
#
# Tip: This may be a partial find and not the whole line.
#
				'new_username'			=> array(
					array('string', false, $config['min_name_chars'], $config['max_name_chars']),
					array('username')),
#
#------[ AFTER, ADD ]-----------------------------------------
#
# Tip: Add these lines on a new blank line after the preceding line(s) to find.
#
//-- add mod : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] ---------
'new_password'		=> array(
					array('string', false, $config['min_pass_chars'], $config['max_pass_chars']),
					array('password')),
'password_confirm'	=> array('string', false, $config['min_pass_chars'], $config['max_pass_chars']),
//-- end add : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] ---------
#
I believe this is wrong too because immediately below this will be another 'new_password' section. This again will take presendence over the "new code" if not commented out. So I did the Find and Add After, but then commented that original 'new_password' section out, creating:

Code: Select all

.
.
#
# Tip: Add these lines on a new blank line after the preceding line(s) to find.
#
//-- add mod : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] ---------
'new_password'		=> array(
					array('string', false, $config['min_pass_chars'], $config['max_pass_chars']),
					array('password')),
'password_confirm'	=> array('string', false, $config['min_pass_chars'], $config['max_pass_chars']),
//-- end add : default/add password for acp add user v.1.0.1 [rklesla] ---------
//--		'new_password'		=> array(
//--		array('string', false, $config['min_pass_chars'], $config['max_pass_chars'])),

After doing all this, purging cache, and giving it a shot, it worked great! The MOD and the MOD OF THE MOD are awesome! They should be inlcuded in the release in my opinion (keep the screens disabled and allow them to just be turned on).

Nice work to all who made this.

Code: Select all

// lets create a wacky new password for our user...
$new_password = str_split(base64_encode(md5(time() . $data['new_username'])), $config['min_pass_chars'] + rand(3, 5));
$data['new_password'] = $new_password[0];
You should probably just use gen_rand_string(8) for the password, because it is seeded.

Hello,
Thanks for your nice mod but I am finding difficulty installing mod (Please correct mr where i am wrong I am new to mod installation)

I used automod it installed well

I followed instructions as in ACP after installation
But i got these errors
"
Administration Control Panel > System > Module Management :: Administration Control Panel > Users (I found there Users and Groups)> Groups (in groups there was no users there) /in the same list with groups Users
Select “Add User Account” from the Module drop-down menu and click “Go”. I added module here
Then click “Enable” on the Module. (It was already enable)
Browse to ACP > Users & Groups > Add Users and confirm install! (nothing was found here )
"
Please tell how to install it correctly.
Thanks
