I know this could be the worse option to fix the problem, but I really don't know how fix it properly. Anyways, this is my temporal fix:

Code: Select all

'U_MARK_FORUMS'		=> ($user->data['is_registered'] || $config['load_anon_lastread']) ? append_sid("http://yourdomain.com/index.php", 'hash=' . generate_link_hash('global') . '&mark=forums') : '',
If someone has a best way, please post it.
Sorry for my english.

I'm using the NV advanced last topic titles MOD.

When I try to click on the title of the last post I get the following error:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '}' in /XXX/XXX/public_html/XXX/viewtopic.php on line 374

Re: SEO MOD

Post by epatrickt » Mon Feb 23, 2009 5:01 pm

I have started to trap my 404 failures and have a few emails from Yahoo! that indicate something is wrong. Think it might be the SEO MOD. For instance, the following email came through after a 404 which I presume is Yahoo! trying to index my new site:
74.6.22.102 tried to load http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompan ... -t11.html-

User Agent = Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp)

The page this refers to is actually: http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompan ... p?f=1&t=11.

Any ideas what is going wrong here please? the search is looking for "forum post title"-"post-number".html but this doesn't exist.

Thanks

Patrick

Is there a definitive way to determine whether or not this mod is working correctly, specifically, that search engines don't get upset?

A couple of notes:
1. I think topic is referred to twice.
2. Does the foreign characters version of clean_url (p4863705) supercede the clean_url mod earlier in the list (p6009335).
3. I am using subsilver2 and don't seem to have the js file indicated in p5784105.

Thanks for trying to sort this mod. Should I regret using it?

Re: SEO MOD

I'm getting 404 errors where it seems that spiders are looking for urls for articles in my forum with a hyphen appended, such as: site.com/forum/article-t5.html-. removing the extra hyphen makes the link OK. Have I made an error in an edit somewhere (where please?) or is there a bug I haven't corrected?

Running a sitemap generator and looking at a random forum post, I see an entry like this:

Code: Select all

<url>
  <loc>http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompany.co.uk/forum/release-1-5-0-10-t14.html</loc>
  <priority>0.41</priority>
  <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
  <loc>http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompany.co.uk/forum/release-1-5-0-10-t14.html-&view=print</loc>
  <priority>0.33</priority>
  <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
</url>
<url>
  <loc>http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompany.co.uk/forum/release-1-5-0-10-t14.html-view=previous</loc>
  <priority>0.33</priority>
  <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
</url>
<url>
  <loc>http://www.thewoodworkingsoftwarecompany.co.uk/forum/release-1-5-0-10-t14.html-view=next</loc>
  <priority>0.33</priority>
  <changefreq>daily</changefreq>
</url>
I think that these are OK. While this is generated, I see a series of 404 errors. Is it reasonable to assume that the spider is collecting a url ending t14.html- with nothing else?

Looking at the output from a sitemap generator, I notice that for each forum article, 6 entries are created:
  • url+tx.html
    url+px.html these two seem to be the same with only the t and p reference being changed (x is post number).
    url+print
    url+next
    url+previous
    url+tx.html - (that is with the additional space + hyphen. only know of this as trapped when spider hits my 404 page).
Help gratefully recieved!

Sadly not many responses on this thread...but I shall try another question! Why would the SEO Mod provide entries containing the session id, sid, through append_seo_sid? Why is the sid useful in SEO lists - I'd assumed the opposite to be true and so this shouldn't be done?
