I have this problem with permissions, this is what it says in the forum ACP
- language/en/help_faq.php

But when i go into my server the file is actually this
help_faq.php.bak
Hence, I can't change the permission, any ideas out there.

Thanks

PS. I'm using it with 'Links page' mod found here
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... &t=1697155

Update:
My own fault, I was looking in the wrong place
All sorted and working perfect!
:D :D

.bak files are backups created by your editing tool (editplus, or similar).
Simply remove the .bak form the file name and check that the lines of the file are correct (or maybe download it again).

Today I wanted to alter the faq and after editing and hitting save I got these errors

Code: Select all

[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/acp/acp_faq_manager.php on line 329: Undefined variable: user
[phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /includes/acp/acp_faq_manager.php on line 329: Trying to get property of non-object
It seems that making the help_*.php lang file writable eliminates the issue, but I think that this is not the correct thing to do...
Any ideas?

EDIT: After some more checking, if lang files are writable the error isn't there anymore, but at the same time if you alter the Faq, although in FAQ manager looks OK, the actual file is not altered..
Just tried this also with a clean installation.[/strike]

Scratch that... Sometimes you must not even speak if your head is not clear... lol

Oh praised be to the bit-gods... That was the easiest mod install I've ever done.

Question... Is there ANY way to divide the FAQ's into two sections? I would like to have a public section for guests, and a private section, visible to members only.

Thanks

Note added to my previous post:

I guess I'm looking to divide my FAQ into THREE sections. I've only now figured out that it's already in two sections. I'd like to add a private section for members only to talk about common member-specific issues.

What sections would I have to add to the faq_manager.php file to get it to show up in the ACP as a third category?

I would have to add a case statement to the faq.php file recognizing the link as a 'MEMBER_GUIDE' (for example), but I'm not sure how to add the file and make it compatible with the FAQ manager?

Why don't you try a different approach?
You can install Rules page or Links page, change the language accordingly (eg. instead of rules use "VIP faq") and manage all of them via the FAQ Manager.
AFAIK those mods support permissions, so it will be
  1. Easier to maintain those files, by keeping them seperate
  2. Easier to assign permissions for those who can/not see the page
I've done something similar a while ago in my forum when I needed a help page...

I LIKE the idea... THANK YOU. Seems very appropriate for my site.

Wow easy install, no fun at all ;) . Joking aside this mod makes updating the FAQ page a lot quicker, now to install the rules/links mod. Thanks for another great mod EXreaction.

umil - yes

faq_manager.php - no, it's part of the Faq Manager modification

Obvious newbie question but I don't understand the installation instructions.
1.

Copy: root/*.*
To: *.*

Run the faq_manager.php file from your browser to install the FAQ Manager Module.
means what? I take the entire root file and put it into the forum directory in public_html and then run the php file? Does it put the files in the appropriate places?

Or am I supposed to put the contents of each subfolder into their appropriate places?

Sorry if this seems obvious, but it's the first time I've installed a mod in phpBB3 (and a while since I did it in 2). I would have thought there would be a way of installing mods in the admin control panel. has that changed?

Thanks for your help in advance!
