NoQuote in Last Post

Post by iEric » Fri Feb 08, 2008 9:26 pm

Thank you... :)

The short story...
We had problems with a lot of members that constantly used the quote-function instead of reply. Even if told not to, it continued... Since we have a fairly small board and most are friends - this was more of a self-solution to avoid 2ft. tall posts beeing quoted with their own text added: "–Yes, same here" (or someting like that). ;)

# To us this works perfect together with quote depth level set to 1. And you might also want to install the MOD: "Quote Remover". They work great together. No unnescesary quotes, and no warnings about too many nested ones to get the topics more "clean".

New in version 1.2.0
Instead of removing it will replace they quote button in the last post with a reply/locked button.

The Mod just replaces the quote button in the last post of a topic, they can still chose to quote the last post by clicking quote in the topic posting review history.

If you really want to edit away that quote button as well:

Open posting_topic_review.html - Find:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF topic_review_row.POSTER_QUOTE and topic_review_row.DECODED_MESSAGE -->
And replace with:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF not topic_review_row.S_FIRST_ROW and topic_review_row.POSTER_QUOTE and topic_review_row.DECODED_MESSAGE -->
# There is a PSD-file included for you to put your own languages on the buttons.

Edits for subsilver2
Download: NoQuote_1.2_subsilver2.zip

I hope you'll find it useful.

/Eric

Thank you guys for this! I have a little question, I would like to disable completely the "quote" function, or allow it only to admin and moderators how can I do?

thanks a lot

# I don't see why you would do that.. Quoting is really good and useful, especially when copying a text from outside the board to use within the topic. Make a MOD-request. :)

# The 2nd part - you don't need this MOD to perform that.
(Use the switch and use <!-- IF U_MCP --> and, your boardmembers will get mad at you) ;)

iEric, ithank you for your isupport! ;)

# You are right, but here is my problem: in my forum people can share legal songs (capoeira music) and also lyrics. they can put it online with an mp3 BBcode, and members can listen to the music in the post without showing the link where the song is uploaded. BUT when a member use the quote function, the whole code is displayed and the url is visible, and people can download the song, I would like to avoid that!

#the 2nd part- sorry could you be more explicit please, where do I have to put <!-- IF U_MCP -->?

ithank you

...in viewtopic_body.html - find:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF postrow.U_QUOTE -->
and replace with

Code: Select all

<!-- IF U_MCP and postrow.U_QUOTE -->
(but, it must e better to make them avoid the mp3's in quoting by board-rules instead of taking out the quoting. The can still see the link to the url in "view souce" in their browsers).

iEric: Thank you very much you are a chief!

Do you have any idea how to solve this problem of viewing the source?
How can I avoid to use mp3, since as the aim is to share members songs?
