Re: Quick reply for phpBB3

I did a search and found nothing... apologies for what must be a really infuriating "help the dumb newbie" sort of post, but here goes.

My forum has several styles. The quick-reply mod is installed and active for two of the styles. I want to install it on other styles - such as Hermes. What do I do? I'd actually prefer editing the raw viewtopic_body files and manually FTPing instead of using install scripts, which tend to create more problems than they solve

Anyway, thanks in advance to whoever can give me detailed step-by-step instructions of what I should do. And sorry for such a newbie-style question  Like I said, I searched for about thirty minutes, but couldn't find anything besides various install.php scripts - I'd rather just edit the stuff manually, so I can see what I'm doing :D

Hmm... Couldn't find this style anywhere, would you provide a link?

Depending on what stock style your custom style is based.
If you custom style is based on prosilver, you should apply MOD's installation instruction for prosilver to edit you custom style (use main instruction), and for subsilver2-based style you use installation instruction for subsilver2 (MOD package/templates/subsilver2.xml).

Thanks! It's based on Subsilver2, but now I've run into another snag.

In the UCP, "Display quick reply panel at topic view:" defaults to "no". When I tried setting it to "yes" (that I might see the fruit of our labors! :D ), I got the usual "settings updated" screen... but when it refreshes back to the UCP, the setting is still at "no". No matter how many times I switch it to "yes", it never actually enables it, or even claims it's enabled - blasted thing is stuck on "no" .

Other settings will switch properly - it's just the quick reply setting that "sticks" to "no".

What might I be doing wrong?

(EDIT: and since it would probably help, here's my ucp_prefs_view.html file)

The bad news is that we can't make it enabled by default with only template edits since user_options field has to be recalculated. Actually, install.php installation script should do it :)

Maybe I was not clear with my words :) The problem isn't that it isn't enabled by default (only ten users use this skin on the forum, having them switch manually is NO PROBLEM! I don't care! :)).

The problem is that it simply will not enable! No matter how many times I click "yes", then "submit", it always remains on "no"!

Ah... now I see. Sorry for misunderstanding (if you'd writing in russian the things would be much better for sure  ).
If so, there could be some problem(s) with includes/ucp/ucp_prefs.php edits. Please recheck them once again or show me the code of the edited file.

If I could write in Russian, believe me I would :) Your English is much, MUCH better than my Russian would be

I included my ucp_prefs_view.html file, and have not changed the .php file.

Sure. install.php script shouldn't be ran from any subfolder, but from the root folder of your board (I guess it's /forum). So try ...forum/install.php.
WDPD wrote:and have not changed the .php file.
Why not? It has to be edited as per installation instruction, and this is the problem definitely.
