th23 Domain

Post by Extensions Robot » Wed Apr 09, 2008 7:43 pm

Modification name: th23 Domain
Author: th23
Modification description: This modification allows you to use phpBB across multiple domains (the same forum is accessible via different domains). It allows you to specify sitename and cookie domain according to each domain you use with your board (via editing "includes/th23_domain.php"). Additionally the MultiLogin option gives your users the possibility to login to all domains simultaniously. Whenever a user comes to one of your domains he is automatically logged in, no matter on which domain he registered/logged in originally.
Modification version: 1.2.5
Tested on phpBB version: 3.0.2

Download file: th23_domain_1_2_5.zip
File size: 44.23 KiB

Thanks MOD team for the feedback and validation :!:

---

After it took some time for the validation and ironing out some errors and having lost my private HDD with all the details on it two weeks ago...it's now time for planning/coding the next major release th23 Domain 1.2.0

The new version has been finished an internally tested...see the new features / bug fixes described below:
  • [New feature] Storage of all domain / site information in DB
  • [New feature] Usage of cache functionality for domain / site information
  • [New feature] Extended backend functionality
  • [New feature] Additional option to force usage of MultiLogin (incl. information tooltip)
  • [New feature] Full support of login box on index page (incl. tooltip)
  • [New feature] subsilver2 support
  • [Bug fix] Display of "MultiLogin" tooltip on login page works now in all major browsers
  • [Bug fix] Clean up namings in CSS (th23_domain.css instead of th23_tooltips.css, etc.)
  • [Bug fix] Admin session creation handled correctly (optional login for admin session on all sites "Admin MultiLogin" or admin session for one domain and logout from frontend of all other domains)
  • [Bug fix] Usage of script_path in "cookie call" URL, avoids requirement to specify sub-folders of phpBB installation in cookie_domain field
  • [Bug fix] Clear explanation in backend on how to handle forums in sub-folders
It's submitted to the phpBB MOD team and waiting for validation... stay tuned :)

Thanks alot!! I'll be trying it out. How should the domain(s)/redirection be setup in relation to forum??

Two interfaces sharing the same database - possible? (becouse one is SSL, other for nonsecure login optio)

thanks!!!

Sorry, I don't really get the point... this MOD does not offer two set of phpBB files with one DB - it enables you to run the same set of files/DB under different domains.

Hope this answers your question!?

I really like the sound of this and was thinking of giving it a try... but my question is... would this not lead to duplicate content issues with search engines ? By which i mean if i had 3 or 4 domains running the same site they could possibly be banned from the google index or any other search engine for all having the same content ?

would this mod allow two forums (on different domains) to share the same users, but not the same forums and topics.

Potentially yes, but from my experience the search engines either don't care (e.g. Microsoft) or they ignore all but one domain (e.g. Google). So one domain with the results is still shown...

No, thats not what the MOD is made for... it "simply" allows using multiple domains incl. different possible site titles, handling cookies across domains, etc

However testing of the subsilver2 implementation will be up to you guys - I don't have a test board setup for this...
