[MODDB] ReIMG Image Resizer

Post by DavidIQ » Tue May 12, 2009 10:05 pm

Modification Name: ReIMG Image Resizer
Current Author: DavidIQ
Original Author: TaleTN

Modification Description: Resizes user-posted images that are too large, optionally overlaying a zoom button to view the original-sized image (optionally in a lightbox).
Modification Version: 1.0.0

Features:
  • Images are resized (downscaled) client-side using javascript.
  • Images don't first load in large format and then collapse, but instead appear only after they have been resized already.
  • An optional zoom button is overlayed on top of resized images, so you can click to the original-sized image. This button will not mess up a URL the poster might have placed around the image. :)
  • The original-sized image can open in the current window, in a new window, or in a cool lightbox or highslide. 8-)
  • Only user-posted images posted using Img BBCode or uploaded as attachment are resized. However, any other image can be resized (and/or equipped with a zoom button ;)) by adding onload and onerror events to the <img> XHTML tag.
  • You can specify the maximum dimensions in pixels (e.g. 640x480) and/or a maximum relative width (e.g. 80%).
  • All settings (maximum dimensions, zooming method) can be changed from the Administration Control Panel.
  • This MOD comes with default, neutral style sheeting built in, so you don't need to alter all your theme files. However, you can override these defaults from within your theme files, and thus unleash your own style sheeting magic on the resized images.
  • Quick loading, compressed/stripped javascript files as well as full javascript source code files are included.
  • I've successfully tested this MOD in Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 8, Firefox 3, Firefox 2, Firefox 1.5, Firefox 1.0, Opera 9.5, Opera 9.27, Safari 3.1 and Mozilla 1.7.

At this point the MOD seems pretty stable thanks to TaleTN's hard work. I will update MODX on it whenever I'm ready to send it into the MODDB. Right now I want to give everyone the oportunity to voice their concerns or problems with the MOD, if any. If you would like to see a feature added that would be fine to mention as well.

Thx for much for picking this up. its a very good mod as it is. Loads pretty fast. But of course that is always the main thing when it comes to functions. Exept that i would like a option to click entire picture instead of the icon, maybe in acp. maybe highslide.

To get a image resize mod validated would be great. There are no as it is. Good luck

Nice to see someone is picking this up. It's a great mod but images in signatures get resized too. Is there a way to prevent this from happening? It's very annoying.

Can it be integrated with highslide instead of that lightbox??

Hi there, I'm currently trying to get this mod installed on a board that I'm helping setup, but I'm unsure how to apply this mod to a style other than prosilver. I am using a style called "DVGFX2" but whenever I open DVGFX2's style files and try to search for the lines dictated in the installation file, I always come up empty.

Could someone explain how to install this on a style other than prosilver?

I'll take a look and see if images in signatures can be excluded from resizing.

I can see about adding highslide to the zooming method drop-down. One thing to remember though is that Highslide has a commercial site restriction. That could prove problematic.

DVGFX2 is based on subsilver2 and not prosilver. Try the subsilver2 edits instead.

That did it, I'm feeling extremely inadequate for not thinking of that now...

Thank you for continuing development of this mod.
One thing i discussed with TaleTN was making the mod reserve the space for the resized image. This way when a user views the page it doesnt keep jumping around while its loading the images. Once the images are loaded, its not a problem... and its really not that bad on a broadband connection. However, not everyone that uses a forum is on broadband. Some are on dialup. Others may just be on another type of slow connection. When the images are loaded and resized, it pulls the current view all around. If your trying to read a post, and the view keeps jumping around due to resizing images, it can get very frustrating.

Im hoping now that you have taken it over you may be able to come up with a solution that prevents this.

Thanks very much for your time and your efforts.

I think its hard to avoid unless you use attachments and limit the size of the images to a certain value. Same with img. if you post 30 img in one post all below the resizers limit the loading and scrolling are many times faster and smoother.

Since its your computer that have to load the images and the images posted are 2500x1500 then you have to load the whole image. Its not the mod loading it and then showing the resized img. As i see it the only way for you to avoid loading these large images are to replace them with smaller ones or attachemnts.

Optimising the smoothness and speed are very individual. The imgages post at your site may have a certain overall size, study that and make your img resizer fit those values.

But maybe some wiser man can find a solution for what your asking. DavidIQ are properly the best shot.

hey,

is there a way to add this too uploaded images as well? instead of the images opening up on a blank page.

i also agree on the sig part, it is quite a pain when one gets resized.

This is a great mod. I believe the mod itself should be with lightbox so that there are no problems on a commercial site. That said, it would be nice to be able to use Highslide for those who don't have commercial sites :D
