[RC1] phpGrr! (Portal)

Post by JwB @ ZoofWare »

Modification Name: phpGrr!
Author: JwB @ ZoofWare

Modification Description::

phpGrr! is a simple to use and easy to install portal system for phpBB3. It has a flexible module system which enables you to install add-ons without the need to mess with code, all you need to do is upload the required files and install from the ACP. It also has the ability to display news posts from both (multiple) forums and individually specified posts. As well as displaying single posts to form a rudimentary CMS.

If desired, you can also force phpGrr! to use a custom header and footer template, to give your main website a unique look.

Everything can be configured through a simple addition to phpBB's ACP.

A working version can be seen at: http://zoofware.com (please note that this site has portal.php located in the phpBB parent directory and uses mod_rewrite, the mod itself is not packaged in this way, its very easy to replicate this behaviour however)

RC1 Update:

This latest release includes many bug fixes and several small new features such as the ability to choose between a 3 or 2 column layout and post trimming (BBCode friendly, I hope, needs lots of testing ;) )

Feature List: http://zoofware.com/?pid=25

Modification Version:: 1.0.0-rc1

Requirements: Currently only supports MySQL 4+

Screenshots: (for 1.0.0-dev2) http://zoofware.com/?pid=21

Modification Download: http://zoofware.com/forums/download/file.php?id=17 http://zoofware.com/phpGrr_1.0.0-rc1.zip

I like it alot. Simple and clean

What bbcodes are parsed at frontpage and how can i control the cut-off in length of messages. Some portals have problems if a bbcode is cut off.

Also a Home link in overall header seems like a good idea. Home > Board index > That way you can always return to frontpage no matter were you are in the forum.

Good luck

All BBCodes are codes are parsed; including admin defined ones, [attachment], smilies and the text is censored.

Thats a feature I hadn't thought of ;) I'll look into it for the next release. strpos could probably solve that problem.

Will definately also add this in the next release.

Great little mod youve got there !

I have a minor problem ive accidently installed the mod 6 times so when I use it for anything it duplicates it 6 times. Any way of removing/uninstalling 5 and keeping just 1 so it will work correctly ?

Hey guys, you can find a download of this MOD at phpBB-Hacks. Click here. btw, sorry if I'm not supposed to post outside links. Realize that this might not be the latest version. I don't know; I haven't tested it. But phpBB-Hacks is a well known and respected site, so I figure the download is legit. ;)
Cheers!

Great, but the author site is temporary unavailable or the phpGrr!mod is abandoned?

I don't konw. You can try PMing the MOD or wait for him to get the site back up. Otherwise, we can assume that it's abandoned. ;)

I'm not sure what JwB is up to. I think he may have become disillusioned with phpBB3 staff and the modifications process, I don't know. I haven't been able to contact him so far, and phpGrr development is uncertain.

I however will keep on developing modules and possibly phpGrr. At the time of closing on ZoofWare forums, I believe only my modules were available.

And they are still available here. You are all welcome to pop over to our site and give them a try, post any feedback/bugs and other phpGrr related material.
