if i use this SEO mod and topic with chinese character, if will cause error, because chinese URL is not suported yet.

is there any method to allow only alphabetic character to show in URL ? the SEO mod in phpbb2 work in this way, and i was using for more than 2 years.
Beta 6 worked with Chinese characters… so I messed up something on this latest.
It will be fixed for Beta 9.

I would love to have just the title in the URL - and nothing else. How about that ? I know some random code behind it like 123 - being category 1, forum2, post3. But could someone do the magic In category-view, just the category, in forum just the forum, and in posts, just the posts.

And yes, only link leading to the posts. That is necessary.

EDIT: Clarification is needed here - this line of words: "And yes, only link leading to the posts. That is necessary", doesnt make sense. I was referring to the earlier discussion on several links leading to the same post or forum causing duplicate entries in the the search engine rsults pages - in which I was underlining the importance of getting around this bug.

Thanks.

I need to show only the forum/message/topic number and no more (not even the topic/forum/message title). How could I modify this mod to get that? For example, instead of...

viewtopic.php?f=70&t=545071

I need: topic545071 (for topics, I want to get rid of the forum ID)

And, instead of

viewtopic.php?f=70&t=545071#p2985871

I need: message2985871 (for messages, I want to get rid of the forum ID and the topic ID)

The reason: I have a SEO-modified phpBB2 board and I have been following those rules (forum2.html, topic234.html, message8764.html). I don't want to be penalized by Google after my migration to phpBB2, so I need URL coherence (forum2.html -> 301 redirection to forum2, etc). If I don't achieve this, Google will see several URLs for the same page, and I will be penalized. My website reaches #1 in a lot of searches through Google and I don't want to lose my position.

Also, I think that those URLs are better than any other. I see more user-friendly a URL like message491623 or topic49812 and not "forum/f37-portals/t2038-wolfmod-0-1-2-.html". Message491623 is relatively easy to remember or take note about... but "forum/f37-portals/t2038-wolfmod-0-1-2-.html" is not (imagine this phone conversation: "hey, my friend, please visit mydomain.com/forum/f37-portals/t2038-wolfmod-0-1-2-.html" :? :o ).

Keeping good practices in the webpages (h1/h2 tags, good content, clean code, etc) is enough. I don't think that these "titled" URLs do so much about SEO.

Any help? thank you very much.

that would be next to impossible because there is an extremely good chance that there will be a duplicate topic title.

It could be done, but I don't want to take the time to do it right now… photo gallery is of more importance to me than doing a complete SEO mod rewrite.
At some release point in the future, you will be able to edit the urls to your liking very easily.

Instead of having:
/viewtopic.php?f=70&t=543997 for a topic,
you would have something like:
/f92-forum-something-and-stuff/p33963-a-demo-for-phpbb3-seo-urls.html

Hi,

can someone tell me please where I am to locate the .htaccess file for beta8 vanilla install?

I see this:

#-----[ FIND ]------------------------
#
<Files "common.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>
#
#-----[ AFTER, ADD ]----------------

But there are loads of .htaccess files in PHPBB RC1. And none of them that I can see have the above in which I am supposed to find. :(

Any help greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks.

E.

hmm… there had been an .htaccess file standard with the previous phpBB3 betas I thought.
Wonders why it's not with RC1.

I have no .htaccess in my root directory. I work with a dedicated server should I
create one fpr the phpbb root?

And what should be in the .htaccess?

Thank you for your help!

You should put a .htaccess in your root phpBB3 directory. It says what to put in there at the very top of the instructions file.

i've just noticed that the links to other pages in a forum no longer work. I.E page 2,3,4 of chat all take you to page 1. The links are all te same. I noticed this isnt the case on STG and is working correctly.

can you point me in the direction of where to check the code?
