[DISC] Karma Mod

Post by iGuru » Thu May 31, 2007 9:28 am

Sorry everyone, I am only 13, and I don't know that much about phpBB3 or even phpBB2 coding. Feel free to use my code and make a better karma mod. :ugeek:

MOD Title: Karma Mod
MOD Description: Allow users to karma people. (see feature list below)
MOD Version: 1.0.1
MOD Download: http://support.c1nz.com/karmamod/karma.zip

Supported phpBB Version: phpBB3 RC1
Supported Styles: prosilver

Important: You can't have any other custom profile fields set up for now apart from the mod, sorry.

Demo Board: http://support.c1nz.com/
Demo Username: karmademo
Demo Password: karmademo
Demo Conditions: No karma limit set up, please karma under the Karma Testing Arena.

Feature List:
Underneath the post count for each (viewtopic.php) there is a field named Karma.
If your post count is above 30 (editable), a plus and minus button will appear next to those fields.
These button's won't appear next to your Karma.
Guests can not karma.
If you try and go to 'karma.php' without a referrer, you will be denied access.
Extremely hard to hack variables used in the linking.
You can enable and disable the Karma mod inside 'karma.php'
The variables that are passed through 'karma.php' must be valid or you will be denied access.
You are not allowed to Karma more than once a day.
When you push the Karma buttons you will go to 2 files then be redirected straight back.
You will be able to leave comments to a user which will be private-messaged to them.
You can choose your own image for the karma buttons. (images/mods/karma)

Up-coming Feature List:
More optimizations for the phpBB system.
Support for subSilver2.
Top 20 list of the people with the most Karma.
The option that only Mods and Admins can Karma people.

Great!

Like in the old karma hack the comment should be viewable if you click the karma url in the user profile and it could be something like this...

Mike wrote: Jimmy is really outstanding (karma given in topic "Fall of Rome")

The a PM is sent out to the user where it says

"You have received karma, click here for more information"

Everyone should be able to view the comments.

It would be good if karma points would show in viewtopic and profile. Also statistics would be superb (top 20 karma users)

Im sorry if this sound like demands or something, Im just really thrilled about this hack because the karma hack is the best hack I have ever used and I hope this one will be as good as the old one, if not better!

Sounds nice, specially that admins can distribute karma as a reward. Can you make "karma" as the name for the points changeable? Running a board means you have to connect to your audience and "karma" is not appealing in every environment (for example techies could look askance upon it ;) ). Just a thought.

Going OK - I've got the confirmation box going and a field to ask if the user wants to add a comment.

I just need to implement the PM function and come up with a message to send the user when they get karma.

Shall I release my installation instructions, and have updates from there? I don't know how to make a MODX file or whatever you call it and it involves manually entering a table into the mySQL database...

Oh my God, you have come further than I thought. If you ask me, wait with the release and take your time to work on it. Regarding the MODX-file, I never understood what it is and I dont care...as long as there is an install instruction I am happy.

Seriously, you rule. :D

I need to come up with a PM to send users when they have been given karma.

So far I have this:
// If adding karma:
$subject = $user . " has given you karma!";
$text = "You have recieved one karma from " . $user . ", who said:

" . $comment . "

(" . $backurl . ")";

// If removing karma:
$subject = $user . " has removed one of your karma.";
$text = "" . $user . " took away one of your karma, saying:

" . $comment . "

(" . $backurl . ")";

But it's a bit wordy. Could anyone help?

I use Progray which is based on prosilver. I am sorry I cannot help you with the code. I am a total idiot when it comes to programming.

Can someone please help iGuru, he is writing a superb hack here!
