I've updated my posts above. Will you make this feature available? It would be very useful! :)

Version 1.0.6
  • Fixed a mistake in the installation instructions dealing with the search page.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause the contents of a deleted topic to be displayed on the search results page.
  • Don't automatically give administrators permission to undelete and permanently delete, but do give these permissions to founders.
  • Added an option to hide the placeholders for deleted topics and posts.
  • Make available permissions allowing users to undelete and permanently delete their own posts (these are forum-based permissions, just like the board's "Can delete own posts" permission).

Use the update 1.0.4 to 1.0.5.xml, then update 1.0.5 to 1.0.6.xml instructions.

Great! Thanks! :!:

Unfortunately it doesn't work.
The "X" to delete a post is only shown when the user has the right to soft delete a post, but not, if the user only has the right to hard delete a post.

Furthermore the link "permanently delete this post" below a soft deleted post does not work, if the user has only the right to hard delete his post.

Hi, Ken.

I updated our forums with the new release and, although it doesn't hide the deleted posts when I test a user's permissions, it /does/ remove them when logged in as a normal user, which is the important thing.

Great stuff!

The only other option I could think of suggesting, would be the chance to choose a default action for the "Delete this post permanently?" message when deleting a post.

In the board options screen, you can choose to set the topic delete to not ask the question, and instead automatically delete, or automatically move the topic with or without a shadow topic. It would be nice to do a similar thing with posts - so that you don't get asked the question and can instead choose to automatically hard delete or automatically soft delete a post.

But that's just a bit of feedback - now I can hide the deleted posts from my general users, I'm more than happy.

Thank you - crackin' pair of mods. :)

Sam.

When will you release the next version? Just to calculate and to tell it my moderators... :)

For this MOD, I've been releasing whenever I fix a reported bug. Since a trash bin feature is planned for phpBB 3.2.0, I doubt I will do much more work on it except to fix bugs.

Ok, so you might have overlooked my bug report here?
I only meant the "next" version, including the fix of this bug. Or is there no bug and it's my fault? :P

Thanks!

I saw it, I just haven't had time to start working on it yet, and have no idea when I'll be able to.

The first issue would be a bit complex to fix. The original delete permissions, which become the soft delete permissions after this MOD is installed, are used in a lot of places. To fix, a check for the permanent delete permission would need to added on to pretty much every one of them. And that would be only the first step toward fixing it.

As for your second issue, I have not been able to recreate it. I gave my test user the ability to only permanently delete his own post, and when I have an admin soft delete it, then all that shows up for the user on that post is the "Permanently delete this post" link.
