Hi!

Since 0.9.9-rc2 Sphinx searchd daemon supports MySQL binary network protocol and can be accessed with regular MySQL API:

http://sphinxsearch.com/docs/manual-0.9.9.html#sphinxql

which performs better than the "old" SphinxAPI:

http://sphinxsearch.com/blog/2010/04/25 ... benchmark/

Any chances to get this included in this phpBB plugin? Thanks in advance for a reply.

Yeah, at the moment you will have to use the git version. You can download a snapshot on github, too.
I appreciate gifts from my Amazon wishlist.

Just wanted to report that replacing 'localhost' in the below line:

Code: Select all

// we only support localhost for now
$this->sphinx->SetServer('localhost', (isset($config['fulltext_sphinx_port']) && $config['fulltext_sphinx_port']) ? (int) $config['fulltext_sphinx_port'] : 3312);
... with the IP addy of a Sphinx daemon running on a remote server seems to work perfectly.

Thanks very much for the plugin!

Then you'll have to ask your host to do it.

Just posting to say I've successfully installed this mod with the latest stable version of Sphinx (v. 2.0.3). Only needed to make two quick modifications in the sphinx.conf file.

For those who might try doing this in the future, the sphinx.conf file is created in the configuration directory that you specified after you've installed and activated this mod. The first change was on the fourth line of the sphinx.conf file where it says:
sql_host =
I specified that as 'localhost.' The second change was to correct a typo. Search for 'ß410' in the sphinx.conf file. Change it to '0410'.

And that's all I had to do. Have Sphinx 2.0.3 running on a MySQL 5.1 database, and on a phpBB 3.0.9 board with 800,000+ posts. Before this, I was using fulltext MySQL search, which was decent but it was taking 30+ seconds for a search to complete. Now, searches are pretty much instantaneous.

Thanks for the great mod!

Hey guys.. i was wondering if you could help me with setting up some cron jobs for starting sphinx and also possibly to update the indexes?

One small problem that i have with this plugin is that sometimes users (and myself) go to search and it cant because the "search server is unavailable" aka "search produced no results". From my understanding this has something to do with the indexing process or search killing itself.. im confused about that.

Thanks for the help!

Hey,

just want to say thanks for figvam's fork of this mod. Didn't noticed this until today. :o

Maybe someone add a notice for this fork and this two bugfixes:

http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... #p12853523
http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... #p12864709

in the first post? (or better merge figvams fork back to the main project and add the two fixes above to it)

Does anyone have a running demo?

And: does this search support/use the phpBB-auth system (hidden forums, different access settings)?
