Yes you should probably change the mem_limit, I have not made that an option in the ACP yet. The indexing process should only take a couple of seconds on a 300MB database.

What about the slowdown? I made the change to the conf file, but this brings my server to its knees.

Well the indexing process is certainly intense, you would have to identify the bottleneck. Depending on what the bottleneck is some of these options might help you: max_iops, max_iosize or sql_ranged_throttle.

oops, it does read like muddied paper

Advanced Search..enter author name..select First post of topics only and return as topics.

This should return all topics started by that author (not posts the author has replied to). On my test, those instructions return all posts that the author (in this case myself) has replied to instead.

hope that is more helpful.

cheers,
oddfish.

This is what happens with my load average. It spikes pretty much hourly for about 8-10 minutes. Do you have any ideas about why this is happening? It was nothing like this before.

I limited indexer to 50MB of RAM, and it appears to have solved the problem. My VPS only has 256.

I have just found another bug that can severely hurt performance. If you're about to install this now you should wait for beta2. It will have some serious bugs fixed. The version in svn should be fine. I will release beta2 later today or tomorrow.

The new release is now available: http://code.phpbb.com/versions/download ... hment_id=3

To update simply copy the new files over the old ones. Delete your index resubmit the search configuration (to rewrite the config file, options you have added will be kept, modified ones will be overwritten). Then create a new index.

nice improvement thanks ;)

still not returning a user's topics as in :

Code: Select all

search.php?keywords=&terms=all&author=oddfish&sc=1&sf=firstpost&sr=topics&sk=t&sd=d&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search
sf doesn't seem to be picked up against the author.

other than that, great work. nice touch with the memory change in the ACP. thanks.

cheers,
oddfish.

Hmm, indeed. I'll look into that as well as some "lag" people still experience with the author search.

Trying new version now, I'll give you some feedback tomorrow. Limiting the RAM seemed to be the trick for me, can't wait to see this version go!

Alright that is fixed here on phpbb.com and in svn now. I will see what I can do about the delay problem. And if I've solved that too I'll probably release yet another beta ;-)
