Compliments for the release, I think this is a useful MOD/TOOL that helps a lot us MOD Authors. I'll give it a shot very soon.

Will be this one released in the MODDB once stated as 'stable'?

Will this one somehow needed for future submitted MODs?

Thank. :)

No, it is a tool like Automod, it won't be in the ModDB but stay on it's current page.

UMIL is not a MOD, it’s a tool, you would include UMIL within a MOD Package and can submit it to the MOD Database. :)

UMIL should be included in MODs that utilise the Library.

Highly unlikely, it would be far more probably for the API components to become usable within a future phpBB3 release that would make UMIL a much smaller library.

I was just recently given a notice by someone who was getting a blank screen when trying to access the install file for a mod I just released (which uses UMIL).

The cause of it was the trigger_error when UMIL does not exist.

Code: Select all

trigger_error('Please download the latest UMIL (Unified MOD Install Library) from: <a href="http://www.phpbb.com/mods/umil/">phpBB.com/mods/umil</a>', E_USER_ERROR);
It would appear that it's possible to suppress the error and just have a blank screen pop up. What error level can be used so that PHP will never suppress the error?

I don’t believe an error level can suppress a trigger_error, and even if it could, phpBB itself would not work at all for that server. For kicks and giggles, try having them remove the 'E_USER_ERROR'. portion of that line.
Again, if E_USER_ERROR cannot work without producing a blank white page, then phpBB itself would not be able to function properly.

Since it is a separate script, not running it would just cause errors on the forums unless it is run. :P

If E_USER_ERROR is removed it would default to E_USER_WARNING, or something like that, doesn't it? I would think that would definitely be suppressed.

I'll try it out locally later and see if I can get the E_USER_ERROR to just show a blank page.

Also, just got two reports of people having cache issues with the template system.

When we use our custom template path, for some reason phpBB3 has been screwing it up and loading from the normal prosilver cache files (this has happened to some people with the Admin Tool Kit as well since it uses a custom template path).

Please have people fill out bug reports.

This is a phpBB bug, not UMIL. The same thing has happened to users who use the Admin Tool Kit.

I'd fill out a bug report for phpBB, but I've not yet had a chance to go through the system and find the cause of this.
