MODX Editor

Post by APTX »

I and a lot of other people said that such a tool is needed, so here it is. :)
The editor can create and edit existing valid ModX 1.2.x files. The editor does not check if all input is valid, but it should create valid modx xml files nontheless.

Please try to test it on all platforms, not only winodws. All suggestions are welcome, especially those UI related eg. what UI changes would allow you to work more efficiently and such.

This is alpha software. Use at your own risk!

Known issues
  • Editing non-english entries is not possible, yet these entries should be saved properly.
  • Editing links is not possible. Link data is discarded.
Questions?

Windows Binary:
http://code.phpbb.com/attachments/downl ... 0.0A3a.exe (MODX Tools Files)

Stand-alone executable - just put it anywhere and run it.
Should work on XP/2003/Vista/2008/Windows 7/2008 R2 32/64-bit

NOTE: 1.0.0A3a fixes the windows builds issues with missing libraries. No source code has been changed.

Source repository:
URL: http://code.phpbb.com/repositories/brow ... odx_editor

Code: Select all

svn co http://code.phpbb.com/svn/modxtools/modx_editor/trunk

Compilation instructions
You'll need Qt 4.5 (may work with 4.4 as well). NOTE: Almost all platforms have a precompiled package. Almost all linux distributions will have a package for it so you should try that first.

The program itself:

Code: Select all

cd /path/to/source
qmake [this comes with Qt itself]
make [or nmake/mingw32-make on windows]
NOTE: The provided windows binary is built a bit differently.

This tool is great !!
Thanks for the hard work. :)
On most of linux compiler with qt and gcc 4 should not be any issue.
But on windows might require installing mingw (gcc for windows) to compile it
(using the open source version of QT)

off-topic
Do it will have a .net version ? :)

Hi,

When I try to run the windows exe file on Windows XP Proffessional I get the error

"This application has failed to start because LIBEAY32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

Googling this DLL I found

"libeay32.dll contains encryption functions which allow for coded communications over networks. This file is opensource and is used in many opensource programs to help with SSL communication"

I went and found this DLL and installed it now get

"This application has failed to start because SSLEAY32.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

"ssleay32.dll is a process belonging to the The OpenSSL Toolkit program . "ssleay32.dll is a module associated with The OpenSSL Toolkit from The OpenSSL Project"

It looks like Therax is having similar issues. What is it that we need installed as a requirement in order to use this application?

One of the source is windows version php zip package.
But the version may be different the one used in the modx exe.

I don't know of any plans to write a C#.NET version of this.

@01i: Do you have Qt4 for windows installed on your machine? I suspect that is where these missing dlls are supposed to come from.

I've not heard of QT4 before.

I assume you are referring to this http://qt.nokia.com/products developer tool, rather than quick time?

here are the right win32 dll's (tested).

http://www.loaditup.de/files/410675.zip

just put them in the same folder as the MODX Editor.exe

Tested and scaned the dlls and they work great
Scaned with AVG
Tested with vista ultimate x64.
Parhaps they should be included in the original post for those that have problem
running it with windows.

The new build should fix the errors.

libeay32.dll and ssleay32.dll are OpenSSL libraries, which you usually get from http://www.slproweb.com/products/Win32OpenSSL.html though they come with a bunch of other apps you probably have if you're writing phpBB mods on windows (like php or Apache) which is why it worked for some people.

Don't forget to report bugs. ;)
