improper index.php??

Post by TrueTuneMassive »

My website is being built completely using phpbb so i would like the index or "front page" to be as if it were used like another one of my other custom pages.
I dont want forums, topics, etc displayed on the first page of the board index.
I tried the editing to .htaccess and im getting

Cannot find home dir.

Could this be a problem with how the files and folders are being placed into my ftp client?
Or should i, can i take a different rout in order to create a home or intro page?
I am being asked to log in twice and my filezilla is a hot mess!!!!
I think my lack of consistency has me in some big trouble.
Any thoughts on my description of the index.php would be great.
Thanx.

If you have a custom page integrated with phpBB (tutorial) and have the file placed in you phpBB root (where config.php is located), then you can edit your .htaccess file and add the following line:

Code: Select all

DirectoryIndex my_page.php
If your custom page is integrated with phpBB but located in a different directory, you will have to edit this line in your custom page accordingly:

Code: Select all

$phpbb_root_path = (defined('PHPBB_ROOT_PATH')) ? PHPBB_ROOT_PATH : './';
Modify the ./ part to the correct location.

after making the edit to .htaccess and refreshing the page truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php
its still the same truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php
should not i be seeing truelightmassive.com/subass/home.php after making the edit and refreshing the page?

my custom page is integrated with phpBB and is located in the same root (where config.php is located)

something that could be a bigger concern is having the /subass/ in my address.
i do not just see www.truelightmassive.com

Could it be the edit is not working because of truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php
and not truelightmassive.com/index.php?
all template edits and mods have been fine except for this index edit, this why i ask about my address now.
oh and i tried the edit, my_page.php [home.php]
in these different places,
line 1] #
line5] #
and a new line after </Files> which is
line 18] #

Your .htaccess should look like this:

Code: Select all

DirectoryIndex home.php
#
# Uncomment the statement below if you want to make use of
# HTTP authentication and it does not already work.
# This could be required if you are for example using PHP via Apache CGI.
#
#<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
#RewriteEngine on
#RewriteRule .* - [E=HTTP_AUTHORIZATION:%{HTTP:Authorization},L]
#</IfModule>

<Files "config.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>

<Files "common.php">
Order Allow,Deny
Deny from All
</Files>
If it's not working, then I suspect this may be an issue with your hosting provider.

Thank you for the help. i did exactly as you have shown in your last example, still the result is the same. i will follow through with seeing if there is an issue with my hosting provider.
Thanx again. respect-

navigating to http://truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php will still go to your forum index, as that is what the file is called.

If you make the change, putting home.php into htaccess navigating to http://truelightmassive.com/subass/ (without index.php) will go to home.php .

http://truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php will be unaffected.

I may be stating the obvious so this may not help, its just you said you were navigating to http://truelightmassive.com/subass/index.php

If you want your forum index to be in home.php and something else on index.php, this will require MANY file edits, as many links will have to be changed. (although there could be a solution to this using mod-rewrite)
All MOD downloads should be back now - Sorry for that and serious lack of support! - If anyone wants to take over or help with any of my MODs the offer would be apreciated as I have little time for phpBB Modding recently!

Again very sorry for not supporting these MODs recently.
