How to set up a website with multidomain and multiforum

Post by mastyle »

Hello,

I need to do this. With a domain, create various forums with the corresponding sub domain. For example:

coke.example.com
pepsi.example.com
heineken.example.com
etc

All subdomains, with a different design-style, with different forums. But with the same users.

As a bonus, the users wll can choose a different name for each forum.

Its possible?.

Thanks.

I only know of one MOD in development and that doesn't include the changeable usernames: [DEV] Multiple Boards on a Single Database

Hi,

This made me thing a bit! Not good at this time of day (night!).

Using the same database for multiple forums/domains is a possible. Change tables for those bits that are different and share all the rest.

The advantage for users is that their registration is carried over to all forums and they just log in as normal.

So why, I thought, would people want a different username per forum if the point of sharing the db content is to have similar topics/posts over all domains/forums? Sort of defeats the initial point of the shared database, no?

Or I'm getting old.. :)

Me too I am getting older but.. take your time now and think about I want to have access to three Forums at once (or not) they got three diff. discussion points.. and I do not want to be known as the same person in all of them (internet).. makes sense?

I do not see an easy way to do it.

Ideally, it would have a single control panel for users. Where can follow all subscribed threads, of different forums.

But most of all, users only have to register once in time. If possible with Facebook or Twitter account.

Any idea?.
