Facebook Connect & phpBB

Post by kickball365 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 4:14 pm

I asked this question in the general thread requests and was told to come this way...

My question is:
Is it possible to allow Facebook Connect as a login option for your phpBB Community? (Same question can be applied to OpenID, MySpaceID, and Google's Friend Connect) And, if possible, who could design it for the Community (or did I miss a post already detailing a mod?)?

There are numerous services launching and I'm curious if folks are looking into implementing these additional login options to their Forum - if its even a possibility. I personally believe it could drive additional visitors to yoru site if you can link back actions from your phpBB community to the live "social" stream on FB, MySpace, etc.

Thanks...

http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=630563174283
here a video tutorial

they promise more tutorials for more advanced features in the future.

some tips:
the xd_receiver.htm file must be in your forum root, not the entire domain root
the posting form is in posting_editor.html, within your /styles/prosilver/template folder

that's all, so far it works

sorry for my bad english anyway
carefull, not english speaker native here

it would be nice if someone could put together a tutorial on how to do it on phpbb3 since i would not know where to start even with the video tutorial.

I know it works great on vbulletin with a hack, so I am sure it can be made to work with phpbb3

Facebook Connect MOD for phpbb3

Post by joshsmith » Sat Jan 17, 2009 7:10 am

I'm research on the Internet for this mod but I don't have luck for this.. Other blog's and forums have the plugin developed. I think that is a nice implementation for phpbb3.

I started working on something that does this today. It doesn't look simple. If there's anyone else working on something like this, get in touch with me.

Hi,

Has anybody managed to get the plugin working? I tried to follow the RPX instructions 100% but it didn't work for me (both popup and the iframe version). The RPX control panel shows the login attempts as successful, but I cannot really login to phpBB3. I tested gmail and facebook options on default (prosilver) and custom (rockettheme) template.

I suspect it must be something with the token_url which i might not understand correctly. I get a valid API response (through RPX test tool) but sending it to a token URL doesn't do the trick :( For token_url I have used domain URL where phpBB in installed.

PS: I am using phpBB3 integrated with Joomla with RokBridge component.

Best Regards

All I really want is a simple facebook connect application which allows people to log into your forum using their facebook account. Is this currently under development?
