Agree/disagree/laugh/thanks buttons

Post by Kizzume » Sat Feb 28, 2009 10:38 am

On vBulletin forums, there are some mods available where people can add an agree, disagree, laugh, say thanks, and other options at the bottom of each post. I'm trying to see whether something like that is possible on phpbb.

You mean kinda like a rating mod.
Show phpbb threads as html articles. V.5.03 Thanks Erik! (This will be updated constantly as I or others contribute...) This code is to be used on external HTML page, but if you want a template version see here.

Well, I don't want to rate users or posts--no need for a 1-5 system, nor a "karma" sort of thing, just the ability to add agree/disagree/thanks/laugh like what is seen on a number of vBulletin forums.

sluniverse is a good example of this.

For me, it's more of a thing where I *know* some people want to respond, but often the response would be a one-liner, and people often don't want to do one liners, so they just don't respond. This kind of thing would allow people to participate on a forum without having to necessarily post anything. This gives people a feeling like they can participate even if they don't have much to say.

This would be great, even cooler if you could just customize it with whatever actions you wanted through ACP (Hate, like, etc), and have each post have a tally next to it on how many times each button has been pressed.

This seems to be what we're looking for to some extent:

That is looking very promising. Thanks for the link to that. I wonder how hard it would be to add more buttons to it (groan, laugh, agree, disagree, etc..)....

I have the "Thanks" mod installed on a live forum and it works brilliantly.
If the mod author is not interested in taking on the additions requested then I may seek permission to amend it, providing there is enough interest.

Indeed there's an interest.

I have with other users of a certain board, asked for an agree button - both to get rid of one-liners where people just reply 'Agree' etc., but also to involve people not interested in posting these one-liners.

How is it going with the development of the Agree button?

If you don't want to track their use a really simple way would be just to add a few more smilies, maybe a thumb up, thumb down, and applause, there is already a laughing one.

Then people could just make a post using one of those.
