disable reply subject changing

Post by tehCrasx » Thu Oct 22, 2009 4:26 pm

Hi
is there a mod or setting that disables subject changing on reply?
ie if someone posts with the subject
"test"
then all replies will be
"re: test"
and someone cant change it to something random like "wow"

if not i think it could be helpful... on my forum i have a list of recent posts and it shows the last subject
someone could get confused if they are looking for a topic and see something random

thanks
m

Is this the mod, or is there a setting? I have the same question and I've looked up and down for a setting and have been oblivious to it.

Thanks!

Awesome, it worked. Thanks.

Curious, how would I go about disabling/removing the subject from the posted messages and just having the subject at the top of the page?

Thanks again!

open

posting.php

find

Code: Select all

        $post_data['post_subject'] = ((strpos($post_data['post_subject'], 'Re: ') !== 0) ? 'Re: ' : '') . censor_text($post_data['post_subject']);
replace with

Code: Select all

        $post_data['post_subject'] = '';

Is there anything else on this, the link doesn't work.

I'd like to prevent users changing the topic title in replies and quoted replies.

You should open a new topic, that's totally not related to the Topic starter IMO.

I think you misunderstand, I want to do the same thing as the OP requested.

One of my admins found the solution for me here:
http://www.evolutionscriptz.com/viewtop ... =19&t=1403

Which I'll copy here for anyone else looking for the solution:

The following edit below is something I had done here on this forum to keep those from editing the post subjects when posting topic replies to a certain forum posted topic. This is really simple and requires only 1 file edit within your template's posting_body.html file located in the /styles/"your template"/template/ folder in your PhpBB3 directory.

This edit is for most "Subsilver" based styles/templates

Open posting_body.html...

Find the following line(s) to edit:

Code: Select all

<tr>
   <td class="row1" width="22%"><b class="genmed">{L_SUBJECT}:</b></td>
   <td class="row2" width="78%"><input class="post" style="width:450px" type="text" name="subject" size="45" maxlength="<!-- IF S_NEW_MESSAGE -->60<!-- ELSE -->64<!-- ENDIF -->" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}" /></td>
</tr>
Replace with the following:

Code: Select all

<tr>
   <td class="row1" width="22%"><b class="genmed">{L_SUBJECT}:</b></td>
   <td class="row2" width="78%"><!-- IF S_FIRST_POST or S_NEW_MESSAGE --><input class="post" style="width:450px" type="text" name="subject" size="45" maxlength="<!-- IF S_NEW_MESSAGE -->60<!-- ELSE -->64<!-- ENDIF -->" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}" /><!-- ELSE --><input class="post" type="hidden" name="subject" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}">{SUBJECT}<!-- ENDIF --></td>
</tr>
Upload the edited posting_body.html back to your /styles/"your template"/template/ folder and be sure to refresh your styles template in your acp styles tab and purge the cache as well!

Now when someone on your forum replies to a specific topic, they will have no option available to change the Post Subject: field.

Note:
I did the edits to posting_body.html then found out later I also had to do the same edits to quickreply_editor.html to prevent posters from changing the post subject there as well.
FYI, I'm running 3.0.9 and it seems to be working fine.

Hi there,

I was trying to implement the above but it appears that it did not work too well.

The subject title column is still changable and my footer seems to have been mess up too.

I am using 3.0.10 though, not sure if that's the problem.

Thanks.

Does any body know a way of doing this with prosilver and 3.0.11? I wonder what people think about making this a default feature?

open posting_editor.html

Find:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF S_POST_ACTION or S_PRIVMSGS or S_EDIT_DRAFT -->
	<dl style="clear: left;">
		<dt><label for="subject">{L_SUBJECT}:</label></dt>
		<dd><input type="text" name="subject" id="subject" size="45" maxlength="<!-- IF S_NEW_MESSAGE -->60<!-- ELSE -->64<!-- ENDIF -->" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}{DRAFT_SUBJECT}" class="inputbox autowidth" /></dd>
	</dl>
Replace with:

Code: Select all

<!-- IF S_POST_ACTION or S_PRIVMSGS or S_EDIT_DRAFT -->
	<dl style="clear: left;">
		<dt><label for="subject">{L_SUBJECT}:</label></dt>
		<dd><!-- IF S_FIRST_POST or S_NEW_MESSAGE --><input type="text" name="subject" id="subject" size="45" maxlength="<!-- IF S_NEW_MESSAGE -->60<!-- ELSE -->64<!-- ENDIF -->" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}{DRAFT_SUBJECT}" class="inputbox autowidth" /><!-- ELSE --><input type="hidden" name="subject" tabindex="2" value="{SUBJECT}{DRAFT_SUBJECT}" class="inputbox autowidth" />{SUBJECT}{DRAFT_SUBJECT}<!-- ENDIF --></dd>
	</dl>
