Forgot Username

Post by sleevedbiker »

If there is a mod that allows this can you please post a link and disregard.
A mod that allows members to recover a lost username would be very helpful.

thanks

This will let you hand over username and e-mail address or username only or e-mail address only (instead of the first one only) and then send an e-mail with the username and a new password (like always). Open /includes/ucp/ucp_remind.php, find:

Code: Select all

            $sql = 'SELECT user_id, username, user_permissions, user_email, user_jabber, user_notify_type, user_type, user_lang, user_inactive_reason
                FROM ' . USERS_TABLE . "
                WHERE user_email_hash = '" . $db->sql_escape(phpbb_email_hash($email)) . "'
                    AND username_clean = '" . $db->sql_escape(utf8_clean_string($username)) . "'";
Replace with:

Code: Select all

            if( !$username&& !$email ) $email= 'does not exist dummy';

            $sql = 'SELECT user_id, username, user_permissions, user_email, user_jabber, user_notify_type, user_type, user_lang, user_inactive_reason
                FROM ' . USERS_TABLE . "
                WHERE ". ( $email? "user_email_hash = '" . $db->sql_escape(phpbb_email_hash($email)). "'": '1=1' ). "
                    AND ". ( $username? "username_clean = '" . $db->sql_escape(utf8_clean_string($username)). "'": '1=1' );
Tested.

AmigoJack,
Thanks for the snippet, I tried it out (see image below) but found it only provides a link that brings the user onto the Send activation e-mail page. The user will still need to know their username and email address.

I've a number of members who forget their username and a mod that sends it out would be a great help.

Thanks,
;)

Maybe this MOD, Prime Login via E-Mail, will provide a solution. It will let a user login with either their username or e-mail address, so if they forget one they can use the other.

Is there a modification for a "I forgot my Username?"

For years I have received emails from people asking that we help them with their accounts. I think this is the root of the problem that causes so many people to become frustrated if they have forgotten their account information. I can only begin to imagine how many people don't even both contacting us and just give up on trying to login.

That's definitely not what I want. I don't want people to login with their username or email address. I just want them to be able to request to have their username sent to their email address if they forgot it. vBulletin doesn't require that you have to have your username in order to retrieve your username and password sent to your email address. I receive lots of complaints from people about them forgetting their username and password. It would be very helpful to have a way for users to be able to retrieve their username. It seems like this "extra" level of security is making it extremely difficult for users to retrieve their information if they've forgotten it.

should look like
Hello username,

follow the link to reset your password..
or similar..

so just remove the password reset thing from code, edit the send text, so it send the mail with username information only ;)
