Seamless Facebook App Integration - Perfect Example Included

Hello,

I need to integrate phpBB with facebook. Where a user can go to facebook, click on my forum app, allow facebook to get their details, then automatically register than as a phpBB user.

So the person can post right after adding the app. There is no registration, its done automatically.

I have found an app that does just that with phpBB.

http://apps.facebook.com/forum-it-girl/

After you add the app, you can post right away. It uses your name as your username and your default picture as your avatar.

Can someone do this for me?

Thank you very much.

Resizing the website inside the app page is easy in the app settings. But the thing you need to consider upfront is this:

Facebook Fan Pages only accept 520px wide iframes, so your website needs to be variable width and use some shrinking code before you put it on that page - or even better, design your page so that it's 520 pixels wide. There's definitely no room for a sidebar. Trust me, the APP page is useless, and nobody wants to visit. Also, you need to try to avoid having Facebook curse you as a 'Community' page. I think this means you need to sell something, otherwise you cannot set your default tab to be your website. This means users will arrive at your built-into-facebook website and face the YAWN, Wall tab first. There's no clear way to tell them to press the tiny button under Your logo, Wall Tab and Info Tab on the left so that your web page appears.

In summary,

Make your website 520 pixels wide so that you can put it on your FAN PAGE (as app pages are neve visited),
and avoid being cursed as a Community page by Facebook.

Take a look at the link I made in the top left of www.theatrenetwork.com.au. It's a button I invented called 'View this website on Facebook'. It's the best I could think of to make use of having an unfindable app page.

See some of my previous threads for instructions on how to create an overall_banner.html file. Removing the solid colour behind my logo so the background image shows through has transformed my site's aesthetics markedly.

i get
An error occurred during a connection to www.theatrenetwork.com.au.

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)
when viewing your app, also can you post the instructions how you did it?

Really? That sucks. I haven't tested any other browsers aside from Firefox. I have to keep checking. It works at the moment. I don't even know if the browser is relevant. SSL relates to secure addresses or something I think. My website is not https. That's the other thing I forgot to mention. The app development page said something happens on October 1, 2011 that disallows iframes for non https addresses or something.

Anyway, here are step by step instructions:

1. Go to https://developers.facebook.com/apps
2. Click '+ Create New App'
3. Sorry, I gotta go - I got developers in Vietnam building a custom site and I gotta deal with em on Skype. Try to figure the rest out and I'll come back soonish maybe.

SSL (secure server) is required by October 1, 2011 to have a facebook app.

If you are with hostgator, you can get secure hosting for no extra cost on your secure server. Here are the instrctions: http://pennybutler.com/facebook4biz/fan ... hostgator/
