provide a mod to cope with the new EU (cookies) directive

Post by noth » Sat May 26, 2012 9:42 pm

would be great if a skilled mod author could do an official mod to cater for the new EU directive that insists on sites being "up front" about cookies and asking users BEFORE cookies go down for their permission

so the mod author should be conversant with the EU directive and this should cover users who are

a) guests and/or

b) registered users

I'm interested in this too. Using social plugins and Google Analytics too.

I hope someone will make a mod for it. Almost everybody in EU needs it!

Because users need to confirm or deny cookies. If denying then they need to be deleted too!

from what little I have read about this, phpbb does not use any cookies that the new law applies to . therefore, there is no need for any notice etc. on a standard phpbb board.

if you have other things installed that do use the type of cookies in question then that is up to whoever supplies those other things.

Ok, I'm using social plugins (they install cookies - so I'll uninstall this mods) and Google Analytics (they use cookies too). Guess I'll have to uninstall it too. Really don't want to brake the law because of that.

well, you can probably ask the people who those MODs came from how they do it.

as far as google, they are bound to have a way to use their code and still be legal, ask them.

As I understand the ruling (and I might be wrong) they are not actively looking for sites that don't 'comply'. They will wait for a certain number of complaints against a site and then help the site owner to be compliant. It's not exactly a case of not wanting to break the law. I suspect they've done it that way because they know it's not especially workable.

Oh, sorry, I need it for Slovenian law and here we need to implement this that users can deny and delete cookies any time they want. And cookies are not allowed to install before users confirmation for cookies.

It's a real mess around that, belive me...
