ok, I just looked at that player linked to above.
In order for that to work for you, you have to make the edits to the files as it says.
you have to download the swf file and upload it to the proper place on your server.

but, the thing is, you have to upload all of the mp3 files to your server as we have been talking about.

your members can attach them or other files to a post using that built in player.
however, as most people will already have a player on their computer it is simply not needed to have your own player that uses your server to run etc.

you don't need a player, you only need to attach the mp3 files to a post. then when a user clicks on the attachment, it will open the mp3 player they probably already have and play the file.

here again, this involves you hosting the mp3 files on your server.

if each file was 5GB in size and 20 people listen to it that would be 100GB
a TB is 1000 GB

I think maybe you are worrying about something that is not really going to be a problem.

Thank you. I followed all the installation instructions exactly. Put the player, made all the file edits and saved an mp3 locally on server, and uploaded another as an attachment.

I reviewed to see that I remembered all steps and made no mistakes.
Its not working.

I have now installed another player called Dewplayer http://www.phpbb3bbcodes.com/viewtopic. ... &mobile=on, and it works.
It took only a few seconds to install. I don't like that it is branded with its name, but it only flashes up very quickly when the page is being loaded.

I am trying some alternatives too. All are a few years old and so far only one has worked, Dewplayer.
I am wondering if this is some problem with backwards compatibility in Flash.
I get no error message, either there is no player at all, just empty space there, or the hyperlink just appears as if the BBCode was not there. I tried 3 in a row, that did not work.

I tried the players on this page from 2010. Almost all of them that were generic music players and not radio players.

interesting. three of the ones in the list that I checked, the zip file is corrupted or gets corrupted when you unzip it. the resulting swf file is blank. that would be why they do not work on your server or mine.

luck,

I'm using the one i linked to and it works perfect on phpbb 3.0.12 you can upload the mp3 files on to your server or you can grab a link from any other server in the world and add that link to your bbcode and it will play

this is one i use and here is a working player file http://www.blades-place.dyndns.info/mp3player.zip

Thanks for proving that it works for you! Not sure what the problem is.
I am using the latest version of Phpbb. I user a prosilver based theme, but I have noticed that there are some differences between prosilver and the theme so it's not certain that the porting worked for me. Else I might have done something wrong.

I will try it again later because it's nice to be able to play attachments. For now, I will settle for what I have though.

I think the actual player is the one that you use, but you have added mods to the theme, and that is where it did not work for me. I didn't use the attachment bbcode either. Didn't see it in the instructions.

It's and easy mod to install the only bit that is hard is making the mp3 within the acp ;) that's where your problem is sorting the extension.

Read this page http://qkin.com/phpbb3-mp3-player/ do the edits n stuff and then scroll the page down your find a fix
Ok. I figured how to make it work. There are two sections in the acp_attachments.php file where you need to add this line:
ATTACHMENT_CATEGORY_MP3 => $user->lang['CAT_MP3_FILES'],
Make sure to add the line to both sections so you will see “MP3″ on the drop-down menu for special category selection under the group extensions management area.
