[phpBB - 3.0.12] Topic Backgrounds?

Post by Example. » Wed Feb 18, 2015 8:59 pm

Hello, my name is Example. and i'm from http://forum.vl-rp.com/index.php
Over at VL-RP, i would like to add a custom background to a topic, and i know it is possible also i'm aware of the codes to add it, yet i'm unaware where to put the code.

If you're not secure on my support request:
What am i asking about ?
Basicly, i'd like to change the forum background, to a special topic of my choice. in this case http://forum.vl-rp.com/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=4348 where i'd like to set this http://therealdeal.com/wp-content/uploa ... ooklyn.jpg as the background, instead of the grunge styled background, there currently is. It's only for this topic, not the overall forums.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

if you were to do that, how would the viewers be able to read the text with that image behind it?
I have no idea how you would do it for only one topic/post

by the way, a topic contains more than one post. so do you want it to appear behind all the posts/replies in that one topic or just for the first post in the topic etc. etc.?

As i was afraid of, you missunderstood it. For example this phpbb software, i'm looking to change the background the greyish one, not the background of the topic. I'm not looking to change the background of the topic area, nor the background of the posting area, i'm looking to change the background of the overall forum which code is currently

Code: Select all

--------------------------------------------------------------
Colours and backgrounds for common.css
-------------------------------------------------------------- */

html, body {
	color: #000000;
	background-image:url('http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png');
background-repeat:repeat;
}
in the edit within the ACP.
Now i'm looking forward to change that background, to another on a specific topic. Not the overall forums.
I saw this possible, if you'd like here's the link (login only site)
http://forum.ls-rp.com/viewforum.php?f=312
Image;
Image
now for example, the background is pure blue, but entering one of the topic, in this example we'll be using
http://forum.ls-rp.com/viewtopic.php?f=312&t=313711
Image;
Image
Now, as you're able to see the background has changed.
I figured they used this code, in the viewtopic.php for this topic in specific, correct me if i'm wrong. I'm new.

Code: Select all

}
else if( url_title_check == icrispy_check  )
{
       document.body.style.backgroundImage='url( http://therealdeal.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/brooklyn.jpg )';
       document.body.style.backgroundColor=' #000000 ';
       document.write('<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RXdX3gsgsNs&autoplay=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="30"></embed>')
}
But how can i edit it, and place it on my own forums for the thread, i want in specific? I'd like for you to briefly explain it, as i'm very new to phpbb. thanks.

Regards.

there are a couple of ways to do this;

viewtopic.php?p=13197037#p13197037

or, you could create a style just for that particular background.

make is inherit from prosilver everything but that background image.

then, in the admin panel, set the style for that forum to the new style.

make up your mind. do you want it for topics ( dont think you can do it ) or for forums like you said above?

a category is just a forum. if you follow those instructions and substitute forum for category, it works just fine for exactly what you asked for above.

Topics, i'm sorry if i've caused confusion, but it is possible for topics and i'd like to set it for topics. as seen on the screenshots i've posted above, the first one is from the category and the second one if from the topic.

ok, try this:

open overall_header.html file in your text editor:

find:

Code: Select all

<body id="phpbb" class="section-{SCRIPT_NAME} {S_CONTENT_DIRECTION}">
change it to:

Code: Select all

<body id="phpbb" class="section-{SCRIPT_NAME} {S_CONTENT_DIRECTION} <!-- IF FORUM_ID eq '22'  and TOPIC_ID eq '4348' -->forum2<!-- ENDIF -->">
open colours.css, find:

Code: Select all

html, body {
   color: #000000;
   background-image:url('http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png');
background-repeat:repeat;
}
after , on a new line, add this;

Code: Select all

.forum2 {
   background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/yourimage.jpg");
}
you find the forum id and the topic id by hovering your cursor over the topic title that you want and look in the browser bar at the bottom.
edit the IDs in the IF statement to reflect your forum and topic IDs.

upload your background image to the prosilver/theme/images folder

edit the line above to reflect your image file name.

you must refresh your template and your theme after making these changes and refresh your browser as well.

this does work, I just tested it.

ok, go back here and read and follow the instrucitons I have changed them to your actual information.

viewtopic.php?p=13961826#p13961826

do exactly what I posted. dont' do anything I didn't post.

actually you will have to edit the file name of your image in this line:

Code: Select all

.forum2 {
   background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/yourimage.jpg");
}

didn't seem like it worked, the background isn't showing up. keep in mind i'm using se square left and not prosilver.
code i used:

Code: Select all

html,
.forum2 {
   background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/brooklyn.jpg");
} body {
	color: #000000;
	background-image:url('http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png');
background-repeat:repeat;
}
EDIT testing the prosilver theme, it worked not on my theme though.

I am surprised that it worked at all. this:

Code: Select all

html,
.forum2 {
   background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/brooklyn.jpg");
} body {
   color: #000000;
   background-image:url('http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png');
background-repeat:repeat;
}
is not what I said to do.

I said to do this:

Code: Select all

html,
 body {
   color: #000000;
   background-image:url('http://subtlepatterns.com/patterns/concrete_wall.png');
background-repeat:repeat;
}

.forum2 {
   background: url("{T_THEME_PATH}/images/brooklyn.jpg");
}
also, it doesn't matter that you are using se_square. se_square does not have a overall_header.html file it inherits from prosilver. therefore you do the edits to prosilver's file as I said.

se_square does have a theme/colours.css file so that is the one you should be editing.

remember, you MUST refresh the style components after you make edits.

in this case you would refresh the template for prosilver and the theme for se_square.

then you MUSt refresh your browser as well.

If you would provide a url to your board I can check to see what you are doing.

ok, I got the url from the post above.
you have not made the changes to the se_square colours.css file yet , that is why it does not work for that style.

Ok, I see it is working now.
good job.

robert

just FYI, you should download that background image that you are using for the rest of the board and put it in your images folder and edit the body css to reflect that path. right now, everytime anyone accesses your board their browser is downloading that image file from the site where it is stored. that is considered a waste of thier bandwidth and not very fair to the them.

also, just FYI, you can do the same thing we have done for that one topic with any other topic or forum you wish, etc. just have to add more code to the places where you added this code.
