I think this is a great idea... I would also like to have such a mod and was looking for something like this everywhere! I hope this gets done by Highway of Life 'cause he's such a great modder. Sorry if this didn't help just wanted to say what I think.

I'm looking to have gender specific regular groups and then post based ranks with appropriate names,

0 to 50 for Ladies would be Baroness, while
0 to 50 for Lords would be Baron

next would be Countess for Ladies and Count for Lords, etc.

Since my MultiRace Rank Themes mod is about ready for release I was having a look at this as a possible extension, as you requested.

Did you want the rank scheme for the group to be fixed (like they are for special ranks - you're stuck with it and can't change it) or do you want it as an option only for that group (so you could choose to use a 'normal' rank set but have it as an optional one)?

There are a few options I'm considering on how it could be implemented for various levels of flexibility, but extra flexibility adds extra complexity so it'll take longer to do and potentially be a touch slower when running (and hence less useful for larger forums).

Yeah, that's true. I mean, ideally you'd probably want an admin to be able to make ranks, and then specify which rank "set" they were in, and then be able to apply a rank set to a group from there. Though, I would think having more restrictions on what constituted a rank (like, being able to say this person needs 15 posts and 500 threadviews to reach this rank, etc.) would be more important and useful in the long run.

I think rank themes for groups (whether forced on the group or as additional rank set that the group and only the group gets as an additional set to choose from) is within the scope of an extended version of my mod, but some of the other ideas (thread views would be a huge process, but birthday ranks, length of registration etc might be easier) should probably be in a completely separate mod that can then have an add-on mod that lets in incorporate multiple rank sets as well (a merging mod).

I suppose so. I've seen it done before on another forum, and it came out really well, ergo I requested it here. Sounds good though, that's really all I had as far as ideas go.

Well my first idea when I wrote this request was something like this...

Lets say we have 4 rank sets (Users, Moderators, Admins and Special)

Each set has its unique rank images and post counts.

Admin level 1 - 10 posts - Admin Image 1
Admin level 2 - 50 posts - Admin Image 2
Admin level 3 - 100 posts - Admin Image 3

Moderator level 1 - 20 posts - Moderator Image 1
Moderator level 2 - 100 posts - Moderator Image 2
Moderator level 3 - 200 posts - Moderator Image 3

User level 1 - 30 posts - User Image 1
User level 2 - 150 posts - User Image 2
User level 3 - 300 posts - User Image 3

Special level 1 - 0 posts - Special Image 1


Now this was meant to be an example, not an exact guideline.

So basically I wanted the Special ranks that we have in the standard version of phpBB3 to act the same way as the normal ranks. I could specify entire set of rank in them. Then I could specify group/groups that use this "Special Rank set".

As far as I was able to tell the mod on Hive World Terra uses the same post counts for every set.
So there is one difference to what I was thinking.
Another one was that I indeed wanted it to me fixed from APC and that users would not be able to chance it by them self. This would be a good choice tough. To be able to set them from ACP or let user choose it from UCP.

The mod installed on my forum can use any number of posts you want. It just so happens that all of my rank sets have the same number of posts for most ranks and hence seem to be the same

Revanx: What mod have you created? The multi-race mod (which I've had in development pending feedback and the release of Gold for five or six months) or the rest of the requests for basing rank on other items?

MewDragon: Depending on what you want to base it on (e.g. time since posting and special ranks on birthday uses existing data while views of topics needs new data storing) and whether you want different sets based on different things (e.g. one based on time and one based on views, and flexibility to edit/create them) then it could be simple or it could be complex. I think it probably is a separate mod request rather than something related to the original request here, though.
