[Request] Batch thumbnail resizing

Post by thecoalman » Wed Feb 13, 2008 7:15 pm

I've had a few thumbnails sizes for attachment mod going back to phpbb2 so some of my older posts have very small thumbnails others have mid-sized etc. What would be nice if there was a utility to batch create new ones, I'd just do it myself locally but it would be impossible to get the filenames right as there is a number appended to the old thumbnails which can't be duplicated for renaming...

I would also love this. It should really come as standard built in, just like purge cache or Resynchronise post counts etc .. maybe with a limit to set how many attachments to rebuild per step to avoid time outs?

I presume you need to write an sql script to grab all the attachments out of the attachment table .. maybe along these lines:

$process_limit = is the value set for how many attachments to grab in each step.

Code: Select all

$sql = 'SELECT attach_id, physical_filename, mimetype
	FROM ' . ATTACHMENTS_TABLE . ";
$result = $db->sql_query_limit($sql, $process_limit);
$db->sql_freeresult($result);
then send each attachment through the fileupload class located in the includes/functions_upload.php file which should check file dimensions and mime types before it creates any thumbnails.
And now update the attachments table for that attachment ID.

Please some one help with this?

I would love to see this also. Why is 2011 and this doesn't exist yet? :lol:

I run a forum which I've only recently applied the Display images inline: NO and Create thumbnail: YES attachment settings to, in order to combat the problem of multiple exceptionally large images causing huge slow-down problems on the topic pages. Very disappointing that the thumbnail creation isn't retrospective though - now we have a lot of topics with text links instead of images. Any chance anyone's worked on a mod?
