Black Perl Custom Header?

Post by Sebby05 » Sun Sep 07, 2008 6:04 pm

Hello!

Could you please tell me "step by step" how can I add a custom header to the Black Perl Style? For 2 hours now I'm trying to change the default header with mine. Please Help!

Thank YOU for your time! :D

You will need to be more specific than "custom header" if you want step by step instructions. A link to your board would also be helpful. The file to edit would be styles/your style/template/overall_header.html

I'll move this to Styles Discussion for someone familiar with the style to give you further assistance.

Everyone tells me that I have to go to "styles/your style/template/overall_header.html"; the thing is that I don't know what to do there. :P

The link to my forum is: http://www.xtremplaya.com/forum

I want to change that yellow bird logo with the header on http://www.xtremplaya.com how can I do that? :D

Thank you for your help.

BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, Rename your logo to sitelogo_small.png

Go to : /styles/black_pearl/imageset/
Replace your just renamed logo with logo that is in /styles/black_pearl/imageset/.

Go to ACP, Purge Cache.
In ACP go Styles, Click Templates - Refresh your Black Pearl.
In ACP, go Styles, Click Imageset - Refresh your Black Pearl Imageset.

Done.

Will have questions, ask here.

Thank you for your help! But I would like to change the whole header, not only the logo.

This is how it looks right now:

This is how I would like it to look:

Got any ideas?
I've also noticed that the width of my header is larger than the width of the forum...Could you please tell me where can I change the width of the forum from?

Thank YOU for your help! :D

Open file: styles/black_pearl/theme/stylesheet.css, find:

Code: Select all

#top_logo{
	border-width: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
	margin: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
	padding: 0px 0px 0px 0px;
	background: url('./images/top_header.png') repeat;
	height: 150px;
}
change top_header.png with your image, and upload it to styles/black_pearl/theme/images directory. Then refresh your themes.

I have some more questions :D
1. How can I change the width of the whole forum to 980px?
2. How can I add an youtube video on one of the forum's threads and view it from there?
3. How can I add a Home button (that would redirect me to the index page) before the Board index button?
4. How can I add Google Analytics tracking code on the forum?

Thank You for Your Help! :D

1- Open file: styles/black_pearl/template/_mg_config.html, find:

Code: Select all

<!-- DEFINE $MG_GLOBAL_WIDTH = '960px' -->
replace 960 with 980

I would suggest you replace this in overall_header.html:

Code: Select all

<td height="150" align="left" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
to:

Code: Select all

<!-- <td height="150" align="left" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td> -->
not to allow the logo image to appear as an [X] over the header.

2- YouTube can be added as described in this topic http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 76#youtube

3- Open file: styles/black_pearl/template/menu_block.html, find:

Code: Select all

<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_FORUM}</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/menu_sep.png" alt="" />&nbsp;
add before:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.xtremplaya.com">Home</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/menu_sep.png" alt="" />&nbsp;
4- Add the code to file: styles/black_pearl/template/overall_footer.html just before the </body> tag.

not to allow the logo image to appear as an [X] over the header.

Another approach that you can do would be to leave the logo image code altering it to match you image dimensions along with editing of the imageset.cfg file.

open styles/black_pearl/template/overall_header.html
Find:

Code: Select all

<td height="150" align="left" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
<td align="center" valign="middle"><h1>{SITENAME}</h1><span class="gen">{SITE_DESCRIPTION}</span></td>
<td align="right" valign="top">&nbsp;</td>
Replace with:

Code: Select all

<td height="your image height" width="your image width" align="center" valign="middle"><a href="{U_INDEX}">{SITE_LOGO_IMG}</a></td>
Open styles/black_pearl/imageset/imageset.cfg find

Code: Select all

img_site_logo = sitelogo_small.png*150*150
Replace with:

Code: Select all

img_site_logo = your image name.png*height you specified as default size*width you specified as default width
You can now use your images default name using that without having to overwrite the site_logo.png file

<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_FORUM}</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/menu_sep.png" alt="" />&nbsp;
add before:

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.xtremplaya.com">Home</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/menu_sep.png" alt="" />&nbsp;
To match your language files and the default text of Black Pearl you can also do this:

Open styles/black_pearl/template/breadcrumbs.html
Find:

Code: Select all

	<p class="bc-header">
		<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_INDEX}</a><!-- BEGIN navlinks -->&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="{navlinks.U_VIEW_FORUM}">{navlinks.FORUM_NAME}</a><!-- END navlinks -->
	</p>
Replace with:

Code: Select all

	<p class="bc-header">
		<a href="http://www.xtremplaya.com">{L_HOME}</a>&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_INDEX}</a><!-- BEGIN navlinks -->&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="{navlinks.U_VIEW_FORUM}">{navlinks.FORUM_NAME}</a><!-- END navlinks -->
	</p>
Open styles/black_pearl/template/breadcrumbs_footer.html
Find

Code: Select all

	<p class="bc-header">
		<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_INDEX}</a>&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="#" class="nav-current">{PAGE_TITLE}</a>
	</p>
Replace with:

Code: Select all

	<p class="bc-header">
		<a href="http://www.xtremplaya.com">{L_HOME}</a>&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="{U_INDEX}">{L_INDEX}</a>&nbsp;&#187;&nbsp;<a href="#" class="nav-current">{PAGE_TITLE}</a>
	</p>
Open language/en/common.php
Find:

Code: Select all

	'FORUM_INDEX'			=> 'Board index',
Before/Add:

Code: Select all

	'HOME'			=> 'Home Page',

if you want the link to open in a new page use this

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.add your url.com" target="_blank">Add your title here</a>&nbsp;&nbsp;<img src="{T_THEME_PATH}/images/menu_sep.png" alt="" />&nbsp;

Question about the banner.

I have a banner that is about 750px. When I change the width of the forum to match the banner size, the forum becomes too small. Is there a way to center the banner and preserve the forum size around 960px?

Thanks!
