in the stylesheet.css
add a width setting to the body class

Code: Select all

body {
	/* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
	font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	color: #323D4F;
	background-color: #FFFFFF;
	font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
	margin: 0;
}
replace with

Code: Select all

body {
	/* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
	font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	color: #323D4F;
	background-color: #FFFFFF;
	font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
	margin: 0 auto;
	width: 900px;
}
the margin: 0 auto; sets the board to be centered :)

Ok I got my forum narrowed down by doing what you said above but ....
How do you narrow the subsilver2 white background also like this forum is ?
also it appears that the header is wider than the rest of the forum .

If you want multiple backgrounds, un-do Josh's edit and then:

Open: /styles/subsilver2/template/overall_header.html

Find:

Code: Select all

<body class="{S_CONTENT_DIRECTION}">
Below, Add:

Code: Select all

<div id="wrap">
Open: /styles/subsilver2/template/overall_footer.html

Find:

Code: Select all

</body>
Before, Add:

Code: Select all

</div><!-- /wrap -->
Then add this to the bottom of stylesheet.css:

Code: Select all

#wrap {
	width: 900px; /* Choose width here. */
	margin: 0 auto;
   background-color: #FFFFFF;
}
That gives the "inside" portion of the forum a white background. You can now edit the body selector to give it a new background, for example find:

Code: Select all

body {
	/* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
	font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	color: #323D4F;
	background-color: #FFFFFF;
	font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
	margin: 0;
}
Replace with:

Code: Select all

body {
	/* Text-Sizing with ems: http://www.clagnut.com/blog/348/ */
	font-family: "Lucida Grande", Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;
	color: #323D4F;
	background-color: #ACA8A1;
	font-size: 62.5%; /* This sets the default font size to be equivalent to 10px */
	margin: 0;
}
