custom style

Post by Lumpy Burgertushie »

hi guys,

I am working on a custom style and have a problem.

the style is here:
http://cyberosis.net/phpBB3

you can see the problem with the blue area expanding down to the bottom of the left menu.

here is the relevant section of the overall_header.html file:

Code: Select all

<body id="phpbb" class="section-{SCRIPT_NAME} {S_CONTENT_DIRECTION}">
<div id="container">

<div id="header">
<h1>THE BOOK STORE</h1>
</div>

<div id="sideheader"></div>

<div id="left_column">

<div class="left_column_boxes">

<h4>Navigation</h4>
<div id="navcontainer">
<ul id="navlist">
<li id="active"><a href="#" id="current">Home</a></li>
<li><a href="#">Community</a></li>
<li><a href="#">Webshop</a></li>
<li><a href="#">About us </a></li>
<li><a href="#">Site map </a></li>
</ul>
</div>

</div>

<div class="left_column_boxes">

<h4>News</h4>
<dl>
<dt class="news">This is a definiton list</dt>
<dd>Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetuer adipiscing elit. Sed quam. Nullam gravida aliquet odio. Phasellus ullamcorper tincidunt orci. Praesent vel purus. Sed porttitor. Proin porttitor suscipit urna. Morbi rhoncus posuere orci.</dd>

<dt class="news">Lists are cool</dt>

</dl>

</div>

<div class="left_column_boxes">

<h4>Contact us</h4>
<form id="form1" method="post" class="contact_us" action="">
    <p>
      <label>Name
      <input type="text" class="fields_contact_us" name="textfield" />

you can see the problem with the blue area expanding down to the bottom of the left menu.
is on the right side of my pc screen ?
changed the "wrap" width to 100% in common.css
:?: want work .Use something like,
in styles prosilver/theme/common.css
find:

Code: Select all

#wrap {
	padding: 0 20px;
	min-width: 650px;
}
replace with for eg, ( and the style will be centered on your pc screen):

Code: Select all

#wrap {
	padding: 10px;
	min-width: 700px;
	max-width: 900px;
	margin: 0 auto;
here is the relevant section of the overall_header.html file:
Can i just have a copy of the style ,in ZIP format ?

what?

the link is to my test board, it has a custom style using prosilver.
the blue area extends down the page till it is even with the bottom of the menu on the left.
I do not what that.

It may or may not have todo with it ;)

If you post your files i can look at them will be easier than 300 pages of "try this " and "try that" type of topic.

Could be browser related missing <tag> who knows .....

yes, that is exactly what it is. however, if I was to do what you posted, it would move everything out of the parchment area and spread it across the whole page. thereby defeating the whole point what I am trying to do.

I want the board right where it is, the problem is with how the blue area expands down the page.

I would be happy to send you a copy of whatever you want, but you would need to at least understand what the problem is.
thanks for your reply.

there appears to be no closing tag for

Code: Select all

<div id="container">
and

Code: Select all

<div id="content">
this could be causing the navbar container to be misread by the browser.

it is somehow tied to the left column, I have removed it piece by piece and the blue area gets smaller each time.

I have tried removing the background images, I have tried changing all sorts of things but I can't figure out what it is about the left menu that is pulling it down with it.

I found it, I found it:
Image

I added

Code: Select all

 overflow: hidden;
to the content class in the stylesheet.
This showed up a mistake I had in the footer. once I fixed that, it all seems to work.

now I have make the changes so it will work better within the small space I have for it.

thanks to all for the help.

That looks pretty slick, Robert:) The only minor things I see are the rounded corners of the Prosilver style are in white. Perhaps you could make them transparent, or change them to a color that blends with the parchment color. I think it's like a #a5c99e. I assume you're going to also change the colors of the forum itself to blend better? Otherwise ... very nice!
