Advertising banner on right side.

Post by psmmowers »

Could someone tell me how to insert about 8 advert boxes at approx 125x125 each down the right side of the forum list. I would want these boxes in the same frame that the forum list is in at the moment.
forum.psmlawnmowers.co.uk

Thanks for the advice.

Hello PSM!

Do you want something similar to this?
Image

Except the ads on the right side then.

(And don't mind the logo, I realized some time after that it might have been a little too "cartoon like" :oops: )

I think that would be just the job Sinom.

If you can let me know how to do it, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

I totally forgot about this topic :oops:

To add adboxes (1) - Go to \styles\prosilver\template and open overall_header.html

Add at the bottom of the page:

Code: Select all

<tr>
<td width="120" valign="top">
<div class="side-ad"><!-- INCLUDE side-ad.html --></div>
</td>
<td valign="top">
Then create your own side-ad.html file and place it in \styles\prosilver\template containing the code of your adboxes.

Can't post an example of that, as I used images :roll:

To add adboxes (2) - You could try the following MOD out:
http://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/a ... c49b0bf187

Best of luck!

To further explain the side-ad.html file:

Create a new .html-document in your \styles\YourStyle\template folder.

Paste your ad-code inside this file.

For example, I was using an image code such as:

Code: Select all

<img src="//www.google.com/intl/en/adwords/select/images/samples/leaderboard.jpg" alt="Leaderboard" width="728" height="90" border="0">
Add the content you want to have displayed in your new file.

The code I posted in my previous post, is trying to include that new file.

Code: Select all

<!-- INCLUDE side-ad.html -->

<div class="side-ad"><!-- INCLUDE side-ad.html --></div>

Hi all.

When i try and add this at the bottom of the page and try and save it says i am trying to save as a text only document.
What do i need to do?

As you can see Sinom as kindly explained but i have never done html before and dont quite understand how it works.

Advise appreciate and appologies for the daft questions, but if you dont ask you'll never learn.

Thanks

When editing your style, I would recommend the following:

*Download a good text editing program - Such as Notepad++*
  • Log in to your server using your FTP-client. Find and download the file you need to edit.
  • Save a backup, make the changes you're going to do, and then save your file.
  • Re-upload the file to your server, and then head into your forum.
  • Log in to the ACP and head to ACP >> Styles > Choose Templates/Themes/Imagesets for your style and click Refresh!
  • When you're done, you will have cleared the cache and will be able to see the changes you've done the next time you go to the board and hit F5.

Simply put, you need to save the file as .html

Hi all.

This is the bottom of overall_header.html

<a name="start_here"></a>
<div id="page-body">
<!-- IF S_BOARD_DISABLED and S_USER_LOGGED_IN and (U_MCP or U_ACP) -->
<div id="information" class="rules">
<div class="inner"><span class="corners-top"><span></span></span>
<strong>{L_INFORMATION}:</strong> {L_BOARD_DISABLED}
<span class="corners-bottom"><span></span></span></div>
</div>
<!-- ENDIF -->
<tr>
<td width="120" valign="top">
<div class="side-ad"><!-- INCLUDE side-ad.html --></div>
</td>
<td valign="top">

The bit in red is what i was told to add. Does that look right. i copied it from Sinom post and pasted it straight on.

I have refreshed and f5 but nothing as happened.

sorry to be a pain but i am geting there. I now know how to save as html in notepad.

Thanks

When looking at your overall_header.html, I can't see the added code.

Did you refresh your style in the ACP?

ACP >> Styles >> Templates > prosilver - Refresh?

Use the following code instead at the bottom of your overall_header.html:

Code: Select all

<table width="100%" cellpadding="0" border="0">
   <tr>
      <td width="120" valign="top">
      <div class="side-ad"><!-- INCLUDE side-ad.html --></div>
      </td>
<td valign="top">
Remember, you need to add the side-ad.html file in your templates folder before you refresh your style, otherwise you will receive and error message due to the missing file.
