Modifying code in Prosilver Complete Sidebar Tutorial

Post by gmil »

in "Prosilver Complete Sidebar Tutorial" there is the code:
<!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'both' --> <!-- Options: left | right | both | off -->
<!-- DEFINE $SIDEBAR_ON_PAGES = 'global' --> <!-- Options: global | index -->
and then clarified that "Administrators have several options to them when sidebars are installed. These can be set by modifying the following lines of code in overall_header.html:
<!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'both' -->

How can I modify that code so as to have only left or right or both or off sidebar? I tried to eliminate the comment symbols <!--...--> but then the code is considered as text

Left: <!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'left' -->
Right: <!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'right' -->
Both: <!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'both' -->
Off: <!-- DEFINE $SIDEBARS = 'Off' -->

those are comments and thus don't considered as code by the php compiler...is it true or not?

I have understood what happens... even those <!--...--> are comments in html they are considered as code by php and thus we get the selected result...is it true?
