Been trying to follow the code to try figure out my own answer - but not making much progress.

I have the sidebar - say 600 tall. How do I top align the text from say the Mark Topics read confirmation screen? At present it vertically centres it. Same with say the dedicated login page etc.

I think you would add this code to the overall_header.html instead of the other code...

Code: Select all

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="10" cellpadding="0">
       <tr>
                  <td align="left">
and in the overall_footer.html you would put this

Code: Select all

</td>
       <td width="200" align="right" valign="top" class="bodyline">
          <table width="200" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#CC0099">
                   <tr>
                     <td><font color="#FFFFFF" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Right column in here..</font></td>
                   </tr>
                 </table>
       </td>
       </tr>
    </table>
ADDS A SIDEBAR TO BOTH SIDES
it you wanted one one each side you would
use this code in the overall_header.html

Code: Select all

<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="10" cellpadding="0">
       <tr>
       <td width="200" align="left" valign="top" class="bodyline">
          <table width="200" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#0000CC">
                   <tr>
                   <td><font color="#FFFFFF" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Left column in here..</font></td>
                    </tr>
                  </table>
       </td>
            <td align="left">
and this code in the footer

Code: Select all

</td>
       <td width="200" align="right" valign="top" class="bodyline">
          <table width="200" border="0" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" bgcolor="#CC0099">
                   <tr>
                     <td><font color="#FFFFFF" size="1" face="Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif">Right column in here..</font></td>
                   </tr>
                 </table>
       </td>
       </tr>
    </table>
I have only tested the right and left separately not together. they work separately so they should together.

WHAT IF i want to install only ONE banner on ONE side lets say on left side ?.....please provide with codes

ignore those codes above. they are old and out of date ( even though they will still work. )

give this a try:

I have tested this from 1024x768 and up.
at lower resolutions, you have to tweak the percentages and at some point it simply will not work.

here we go:

1. save copies of the following current files to your computer
your prosilver based style/template/overall_header.html
your prosilver based style/template/overall_footer.html
your prosilver based style/theme/common.css

2. get fresh copies of those files to edit;
open: overall_header.html
find:

Code: Select all

<body id="phpbb" class="section-{SCRIPT_NAME} {S_CONTENT_DIRECTION}">
after, add:

Code: Select all

<div id="sidebar">

put your banner code here.

</div>
<div style="float: left; width: 79%; height: 100%;">
3. open: overall_footer.html
find:

Code: Select all

</body>
before, add:

Code: Select all

</div>
4. open: common.css
find:

Code: Select all

#wrap {
	padding: 0 20px;
	min-width: 650px;
}
replace with:

Code: Select all

#wrap {
	padding: 0 10px;
}

#sidebar {
	float: left;
	width: 20%;
	height: 100%;
	margin-left: 10px;
}
5. save /upload all files

YES ! You got it right sir !see here....

BUT that site had the following settings

#wrap {
padding: 0 20px;
min-width: 750px;
width: 800px;
margin: 0 auto;

I wanted the forums to stay at the middle BUT WE ADD an advert on one side

you have to undo the changes you did using the other code and only have the changes I showedyou above.
right now you have both sets of edits and it is not going to work that way.

you have to be more careful when doing these things and be very very precise and follow instructions exactly.

luck,
robert

OK. This time around it is a brand new site...deleted the first one..your codes keeps the forum on one side.I wished the forum stay at the middle and your banner on one side.

NB..NB..NB.. Also notice how the dark blue background has built up. http://test.theharddisk.org/index.php?s ... 5a2411cddc . Also see that the footer nav bar [ Board index The team • Delete all board cookies • All times are UTC ] has distorted and showing on top left.

My original site has no this dark blue background. forum.theharddisk.org/

ok, there is no dark blue background on your test site or your main site. it just is not there, at all.
I have no more to say about that.

ok, if you go here:
http://phpbbace.com/board
you will see what the board looks like if you follow my instructions ecactly .

I just did that to a new set of prosilver files following the instructions in the post above.

so, the fact that yours is not showing up like that means that you are doing something wrong.

as to wanting the board centered with the banner on the left , we would have to do the whole thing differently.

once you get it to look like the link above we can work on that. there is no point to moving on until you get the mistakes taken care of first.

This is surprising ! Am gonna delete the whole forum then install a fresh new and then input the codes to see what happens then come to you next.

WAIT......

OH YES,,,,, it was a deadly mistake.I got it this time....YOU WERE 100% RIGHT.....Patience pays !
i think the mess was caused by the sub-domain folder that contained the forum files...on deleting the sub-domain folder itself and then creating a new one things worked out

.......and a live banner already there.....wonderful

.....hehehehehe! :lol:

#wrap {
padding: 0 20px;
min-width: 750px;
width: 800px;
margin: 0 auto;

I wonder why you started off wanting it on the left side....

oh well,

give me alittle time to redo all the code for you. I am in the middle of moving all my computers to their new place in the office so it might take me a little while to get everything hooked back up.

Because as you can see the live banner on the current position it will be distracting forum members and you know all forums have their contents on left......When the banner moves to opposite it will have little effect to members.

OK....Will be waiting....
Make sure you move your computers slowly or you break them
