huh. Ok, I found where the link for "Watch this topic" is supposed to be in the forum, but honestly, it's not anywhere visible on my forum. What's the link I need to add into what file where to make this work? I've been all through the mod install file and I did every step exactly as it said and it still doesn't work. Some help would be welcome. Thanks.

Hi Netclectic,

I've installed your MOD and it is working very well - thanks! :D

Is there a way to make it more general so that users can choose to watch for new posts in any sub-forum? At the moment users can only watch topics to which they have directly contributed. This is useful when starting a new forum and post traffic is low.

Thanks,

That is not exactly true. There is a link at the bottom of each topic: Watch this topic for replies -- that could be clicked even if they don't want to reply/post. It still requires direct action on the user -- but that is really how you should want it.

Hi BlueRook,

Thanks for your reply. You are right. There is this option, but it's only available at individual topic level. It would be very useful to have the option to receive notifications of all new posts to a particular sub-forum - regardless of specific topic. Obviously if site traffic is high, this is undesirable. But for low traffic forums like mine (in fact traffic has more or less gorund to a halt  at the moment) it is a great way to stimulate usage and inform users of any changes...

Would you know of any way to modify the current settings to do this?? :) - i.e. include a watch this sub-forum ?

Thanks,

icetea

I think there may be a MOD for that. Though I'm not sure.

I think the closest mod for this is called "Forum Notification" by David Hermann

That one might work too. I didn't really look at 'how' either one of them work though.

It shouldn't be too hard. But you might do a request in the MOD request forum to see if anyone has the time to look at one of those scripts and to modify it to do that.

Question regarding subscribing to topics

Post by cox0480 »

I am just wondering if anyone has been able to get something like this to work for subscribing to message boards. I am an administrator for the boards in my small professional association. Whenever someone posts a message I want to know, so I would want to have the ability to 'subscribe' to all boards so I am notified if there are any posts. We are also toying with the idea of assigning experts to reply to people for certain boards to 'moderate' them, but in order to do this in a timely fashion, I would want them to be able to be notified of any postings on their message board.

Any ideas?
