Hi, I have just installed the mod and can succesfully see the rss.php file but how do I access the feed. I use Firefox and usually a Live Bookmark icon appears if an rss feed is available for the website. Have I missed something or do I need to add a link or some code to the webpage. Forgive me for appearing stupid!!!

Hi,

I just downloaded this mod, and came across some security issues in rss.php. First, the $count & $forum_id are used straight from the URL without any checks. I did the following to fix these:

--- Find ---

Code: Select all

// How many posts do you want to returnd (count)? Specified in the URL with "c=". Defaults to 15, upper limit of 50.
$count = ( isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['c']) ) ? intval($HTTP_GET_VARS['c']) : 15;
$count = ( $count == 0 ) ? 15 : $count;
$count = ( $count > 50 ) ? 50 : $count;
// Which forum do you want posts from (forum_id)? specified in the url with "f=". Defaults to all (public) forums.
$forum_id = ( isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['f']) ) ? intval($HTTP_GET_VARS['f']) : '';
$sql_forum_where = ( !empty($forum_id) ) ? ' AND f.forum_id = ' . $forum_id : ' ';
--- Replace with ---

Code: Select all

// How many posts do you want to returnd (count)? Specified in the URL with "c=". Defaults to 15, upper limit of 50.
$count = ( isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['c']) ) ? intval($HTTP_GET_VARS['c']) : 15;
// Security check
$count = is_int($count) ? floor(count) : 15;
$count = ( $count == 0 ) ? 15 : $count;
$count = ( $count > 50 ) ? 50 : $count;
// Which forum do you want posts from (forum_id)? specified in the url with "f=". Defaults to all (public) forums.
$forum_id = ( isset($HTTP_GET_VARS['f']) ) ? intval($HTTP_GET_VARS['f']) : '';
// Security check
$sql_forum_where = ( !empty($forum_id) && is_int($forum_id) ) ? ' AND f.forum_id = ' . floor($forum_id) : ' ';
Also, forums which are AUTH_VIEW=0 but AUTH_READ!=0 should not be included in the feed, so I did:

--- Find ---

Code: Select all

			AND f.auth_view = " . AUTH_ALL . "
--- Insert after ---

Code: Select all

			AND f.auth_read = " . AUTH_ALL . "

I have had this installed for months, but as of about 1130 last night, the RSS feed stopped working. I have done nothing that would effect this at all.

Here is the feed so you can see the error message I am getting. http://forum.web-nuts.com/rss.php

Any ideas?

Seems to be a database error. Best way would be to copy that query and paste it into your database query tool to see what it says. Have you done anything to the database lately (Upgrades, install mods, etc)?

The rest of your board seems to work ok, and the query works fine on my database.

I just installed this mod and noticed that the database query is very slow.
(About 30s)
Any clues to optimize that?

Will this work with the category hierarchie mod and phpbb 2.0.14 ?

I know it works with 2.0.13 but i'm scared i will loose this feature when i install the CH Mod.

RSS and authentication

Post by jayray999 » Wed Apr 27, 2005 8:01 pm

It would be really cool to have authentication in conjunction with this MOD. Currently it bypasses the login requirement and makes by private forums readable public. If only it could ask for the phpBB username and password as an intermediate step. I found the following link on Google. I wonder if it is linked.

Anyone have a clue where we are in the matter authenticated RSS for phpBB?

What would this mod do for me?

I barely understand the concept of RSS and have been trying to learn about it for a month or so now.

I want two things:

recieve and cache (in a news forum) news from specific sources

Could not query list of active posts

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1 Can't create/write to file 'd:\xampp mp\#sql_234_0.MYI' (Errcode: 22)

Line : 165
File : rss.php

well, the admin of that forum agreed after a long long discussion to put it on, but now it's not working :(

security issue?

Post by sharpnine » Thu May 12, 2005 8:05 pm

I installed this mod and within about 24 hours my forums were hacked. The intruder made himself administrator, locked me out, and deleted many of the posts. I have not had a problem before, in over a year my forums have been running, so I am suspicious of rss.php.

This could just be a coincidence of course. I am running 2.0.11.

Doh,
I hadn't noticed there were 20 pages of posts in this thread. I see RoscoHead and possibly others have already pointed out security issues and fixes.
