Logical incoherence regarding auths : auth_view is not enough to gain access to topic titles in standard phpBB : you have to get auth_read too in order to display a topic title.

Is there any way to stop it scrolling and just display the topics on the main page statically?

How do I add the SQL part? I have never edited that before. Can someone leave instructions so that I don't screw up my forums? Thanks.

You have to have a SQL editor (like mySQL) to insert the values.

If a newbie may try to help another newbie...

Set up a test database, perhaps on your PC. I have mySql on my XP box, it works fine. Using phpMyAdmin copy your board database to your PC and install it, all using the export/import function of phpMyAdmin.

Then, using phpMyAdmin, or the mySQL command line interface, create your SQL. Once you have it working, copy it into you php file/script (file.php).

Hopefully this helps :)

Edit SQL using PHP

Post by inkey » Tue Nov 04, 2003 9:40 pm

I'm new here.
To edit the SQL tables I found this. It worked great and there was a message saying my database had succesfully been updated.
Does any one have experience with it? I used it to
INSERT INTO phpbb_config ( config_name, config_value ) VALUES ('topics_on_index', '10');

I have installed the mod "Latest active topics on index", but I don't see the new posts, nor a marqee. Could something be wrong with the SQL? Everything else seems to work fine.

Post by inkey » Tue Nov 04, 2003 9:51 pm

I see a new table in the index, but it's empty, only has the title.

if you have correctly modify the files, you should see, in this new table, a list of the topic, with the username of the poster, the date, etc..... and the link are clickable to see the topic.

Thanks zparta. I've taken a mod someone else wrote and i'm modifying it quite heavily, to create a "main page" for phpBB that can be used as the default page. It contains the latest topics, and i'll be adding on news and such sometime. When it's working I might submit it for other to use.
