It's telling you that before you install your 'important mod' you have to first install another mod called multiple bbcode mod version 1.2.1. You can find that mod in the mod release part of this forum (do a search and you should be able to find it easily).

I have installed the mod and I am quite pleased with it. I had to use it with the modified code by asinshesq which uses the transparent gif image, due to windows IE. What I would like to know is if there is a way, seeings as an image is now inserted, of removing the requirement for the second tab? Seeings as the first tab does the job on it's own and the second tag has been a bit of an annoyance to me (inserts [/tag] before/after previewing, also don't know how but sometimes after previewing the ending [/tag] is recognised as text so I have '[/tag]' all through my post at the end of paragraphs)

What if someone doesn't want to downgrade to 1.2.1 and stick with 1.4.0?

asinshesq wrote: Success. I ended up creating a transparent gif using photoshop and saving it in templates/subSilver/images. Then I changed the code line we've been talking about (the one that originally had the <pre> tags in it) to the following:

Code: Select all

<!-- BEGIN tab --><img src="/templates/subSilver/images/transparent.gif" style="height: 1pt; width: 3.5em;" /><!-- END tab -->
Works perfectly and keeps wordwrap intact. And of course if you want to tab more or less you can change the 3.5em width to whatever you want. Or if you are more industrious, you could add a user controllable variable like there is in font size that would allow the user to specify how far to tab (something like [tab=__] where the user could vary the __ to any em value he wanted).

The transparent gif is easy to create in photoshop (use netscape grey as the background when it asks you for the background), but I can email the gif file if anyone wants it...just pm me with your email address.

How about this instead. The subSilver theme comes with a usable blank file already:

Code: Select all

<!-- BEGIN tab --><img src="/templates/subSilver/images/spacer.gif" style="height: 1pt; width: 3.5em;" /><!-- END tab -->
Photoshop's just too darn expensive!

Has anyone figured out how to eliminate the need for the closing tag?

You need the Multiple BBCodes MOD installed. Try reading the MOD readmes, even if you're using EasyMOD to install these MODs.

The above code is no longer in posting.php and can be located in includes/bbcode.php instead. It has the same output just different location with phpBB 2.0.18.

If the mod creator hasn't submitted an update can a Mods moderator please update the download for this file with the corrections that asinshesq posted? The file linked for download is out of date and does not work with the current 1.4.0 version of the Multiple BBCode Mod.

Thanks asinshesq for solving the problem with the update and with the wordwrap! I love the idea of letting users specify the width of the space. Very smart! :)

I do have one suggestion for the updated version. I had a previous BBCode mod installed, so my $EMBB_widths and $EMBB_values arrays didn't match. I changed the mod file to look like this:

Code: Select all

#
#-----[ OPEN ]------------------------------------------
#
includes/bbcode.php

#
#-----[ FIND ]---------------------------------
#
   $EMBB_widths = array(''

#
#-----[ IN-LINE FIND ]---------------------------------
#
	$EMBB_widths = array(''

#
#-----[ IN-LINE AFTER, ADD ]---------------------------------
#
,'40'

#
#-----[ FIND ]---------------------------------
#
   $EMBB_values = array(''

#
#-----[ IN-LINE FIND ]---------------------------------
#
	$EMBB_values = array(''

#
#-----[ IN-LINE AFTER, ADD ]---------------------------------
#
,'Tab'
And it worked great! This seems to be a more flexible way to add the new values.

I don't think the moderators will do that unless the author himself decides to do it (though of course anyone is free to submit a new mod that borrows from this one).

On my board, I decided that tabs are not very useful since they do not preserve columns very well (the tab does not take you to a tab stop but instead takes you a specified number of spaces after where the insert point is, so if you have two columns of text and you insert a [tab] after the first column on each line of text the second column will not be in a nice line unless the text in the first column of each row happens to have exactly the same length). Instead, I wrote a [pre] mod that allows me to create columns in a text editor, paste them into a post and have the post retain the columns perfectly. If you are interested in that mod, you can find it here: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=247533

Yes I installed that and it is very useful. I also wanted a way to indent text without losing the style of the boards though, so this solution is good for that.

I may tackle the idea of adding a user-defined tab width as you mentioned earlier, and if I get that done I'll submit it as an update with both you and the original author credited.

Thanks!
