I have not tested the mod with 2.0.9 but I'm guessing you did not re-install the mod properly after converting from 2.0.8?

I wish I could say that was the case, but I have checked and double-checked, over and over before posting. I hate finding out that it was something that simple after bothering someone.

Let me know when you test it. On my end, it works just fine, it's just that the text next to the icon is gone.

Off the top of your head, do you know where in the files the text aspect of an icon would be? I was assuming it was the overal_header.tpl where all of the icon references are, but it's all set up properly there (per instructions).

Thanks for your time!!

Could you make me a flashing and normal one for my site? www.rpgfreeze.com/forums

I would greatly appreciate it, because the skin I'm using only says "My Messages" where I want people to be able to see if they have an new messages directly on the forum view...

EDIT: NVM, fixed it

alchemyx, I assume you figured it out.

MaddoxX, it makes the message icon flash. If you want an example, look at phpp.com (i.e. at the top of this page) where the Image icon appears. This mod will make the icon change to...

Image If you have new (unread) messages
Image If you have unread (but no new) messages

I'm using 2.0.10 w/ BBTech style and I made my own icons. The icons have been resized from the original ones.
Can I use this mod?

I figured I'd ask BEFORE I tried it. :D

First off, great mod. I just set it up in 2.0.10 and it works nicely, except for one thing.

When I get a new message, the icon flashes but the words say:

You have 1 unread message

Shouldn't it say:

You have 1 new message

??

Before applying this mod, it did. But I can't find out why it's doing that (not all that fluent in php, but I can get around ok).

Any ideas?

It is working as intended. Per the mod description, it tells you the number of unread messages instead of the number of new messages. I felt this was much more useful information to provide because otherwise messages remain unread for long periods because the user is told there are no new messages when they have unread messages so they never look at their pms. The fact the icon is blinking tells you one or more of the unread messages is new. If you want to know how many new messages, put your cursor over the blinking icon to view the alt message. Also, if you have pop up notification enabled, it will also tell you that you have new messages.

Fair enough. I guess I can live with it.

Do you think you could either send me a little hint so I can change it to display new when flashing and unread when not or maybe include that as a feature request??

Thanks.

If you want to indicate the number of new messages only when there are new messages, and the number of unread messages otherwise then...

open: includes/page_header.php
after: $l_privmsgs_text_unread = sprintf($l_message_unread, $userdata['user_unread_privmsg']);
add: $l_privmsgs_text_unread = ( $userdata['user_new_privmsg'] ) ? $l_privmsgs_text : $l_privmsgs_text_unread;

Will this MOD work with QBAR?

I am not familiar with QBAR, but assuming it doesn't mess with the private message icon and/or link in the header it should work.
