[2.0.7] Animated New Message Icon Mod

MOD Name: Animated New Message Icon Mod
Author: vHiker
MOD Description: This MOD will display a blinking orange "new message" icon if there are new private messages, a non-blinking orange "unread message" icon if there are unread private messages, and the standard icon if there are no unread messages. Also, instead of indicating the number of new messages it will indicate the number of unread messages (the number of new messages is still indicated in the alt message). It also gets around some phpbb bugs which cause the unread message counter in the database to be unreliable.

MOD Version: 1.0.5

MOD Validated/Released

Notes:
This MOD fixes a couple of issues with the Private Message indicator in phpBB and adds a new flashing image when you have a new message.

Example:

Image If you have new (unread) messages
Image If you have unread (but no new) messages
Image If you have no unread messages (standard icon)

I have also re-done the following icons to make the corners transparent. They will look much better against non-white backgrounds.

Note: all of these images are included with the mod. They can also be downloaded here from the styles image set database.

Sorry but I don't know what to do with:

Code: Select all

#-----[ COPY ]------------------------------------------
#
copy icon_mini_message_new.gif to /templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_message_new.gif
copy icon_mini_message_unread.gif to /templates/subSilver/images/icon_mini_message_unread.gif
I did all the other things but I dont know where to copy this code. :oops:

Is there a way to add this feature to a MOD template.

I dont have those Icons next to the words at the top of the page.
I would like to add a blinking Icon next to PMs only when a person gets one....is there a way to do that?

Sure, just change the following in the mod:

$images['pm_no_new_msg'] = "$current_template_images/spacer.gif";

Excellent mod but I have one problem. The number of unread messages is always 1 higher than it should be. For example, when I have zero unread messages, the mod says I have 1 unread message.

This is on 2.04 (sorry about that but I'm in too deep to upgrade at this point). Anyway, if that's the problem, is there a simple fix for it? Many thanks!

I am using 2.0.4 and I don't have that problem. Are you sure you installed it correctly? Do you have any other private message related mods installed?

I tried again from scratch and got it working this time. Thanks!

Sure, just change the following in the mod:

$images['pm_no_new_msg'] = "$current_template_images/spacer.gif";

Where in the MOD is this? And do I change the spacer.gif to my icon I want.

I ONLY want an Icon to appear next to messages WHEN they have a new one.

ALSO, Since Im useing a MOD for a temaplate, do I change anything in there? I can find all of the strings you want changed in the MOD template
Good thing for backups! :?

ps. I sent you a PM
