I'm still getting a lot of spam. The bots must be waiting more than five seconds. :(

so this modification doesn't work with the quick reply button? The new phpbb forum (2.0.20+) has the quick reply button, but is not supported by this mod? Do I have that right?

I primarily use the quick reply button when posting, so it seems a little silly that this wouldn't be supported.

Any help with this? Thanks.

I can't find:

Code: Select all

Is this a version mismatch??

None of the search terms are in a vanilla install of 2.0.21

Is there a logical explanation of this?
I can't find that either....does anyone have some code that this MOD will work with for the quick reply button? It looks like this MOD is only half finished...and out of date.

Here's my $0.02:
You only edit one (1) file and it takes all of two (2) minutes to edit and upload that file, why not just give it a shot? If this MOD helps prevent spam on your forum, great! If it doesn't help, you aren't out anything except two minutes of your life...big deal! Just install it and see what happens...or "doesn't happen" in regards to spam.

P.S: Make sure to change the "nana" and "foofoo" variables when you edit the file. You can change them to anything...just make up two small words, anything, whatever you want...just keep them under 255 characters (under 16 is optimal).

I downloaded the file "disable-spambots-1.1.4.mod"

I am guessing that I drop it into a folder. Which folder
do I place it in and is there something else that I need
to do? e.g. chmod?

Knowledge Base - How to Install MODs

My Anti Spam MOD (in my sig) has stopped ALL bots joining my forum in the 16 months since I started building it. Also have a look at the anti spam topic (also in my sig)

Hi,

Is this MOD verified to work with the current release 2.0.23 ?

Why is this mod described in http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopi ... 52&start=0 as being a mod to check the time taken to fill out the registration form, but the description and editing instructions appears to suggest it is only to prevent spambots which have already registered from posting? There is also a similar mod listed in the anti-spam support thread by a russian author, which is also listed as being for "checking the time taken to register", but that also appears to be a "check time to post a message".
Am I missing something?
Is there in reality no such thing as a mod which checks the time taken to register an account?
If so, why are these two mods described as having this function?
