This may be completely irrelevant since I am still using the BETA version. When you put a single quote into the hide= text you get a java error. I.e.
[hide=comments from Mo's wedding]text here[/hide]
Again, this issue may have been resolved with the released version..

Yes this is fixed. You can no longer use single quotes, because of a security issue were an user could execute javascript.

Yes, you need to edit some files. Instructions on how to install mods can be found
here.
An easier way to install the mod, is to use Easymod. It can be found
here. If you use easymod you don't need to edit any file manually.
For the HideBBCode Mod to work, you also need the
Multiple BBCode MOD.
A suggestion

Hi EGIS,
I was looking around for a mod to hide content in posts and came across your mod
I'm a newbie and is really not a programmer, so I would just like to make a suggestion
Maybe you could consider adding in some conditions to the hide,
for example, only members with a certain amount of cash/points can view content, or maybe only members with exceeding a certain amount of posts can view content. This would enhance the exclusiveness of the post.
Hope what I have suggested is not a mission impossible as I'm looking very much forward to your frequent updates.

I'm sorry, but the intention with this mod is hiding the content of a post so the user have to agree before seeing it, not to hide content from a user that wishes to see it.

1.2.4 Instructions state...MOD Version: 1.2.3
Currently it works fine in Firefox, but when I try to open hidden data in IE, everything will display perfectly except images in [img ][ /img] tags.

Which version of IE do you use? It should work in the newest versions of IE no matter what the content is.

Ok, when I try to install I get this:
