Have worked around the problem, added the codes in functions_topics_list.php (spilt topic mod) instead - and the link appears now, BUT there's a puzzling problem, when I click on the link, it shows the posters of the ABOVE topic, not that topic. :S

Anyone got an idea why this happens ?

That's probably because of the loop that is used to get the information.
But I'd need to see the code more clearly.
Can you either convert "functions_topics_list.php" to a .txt file and upload it to your server so I can read it, or sent it to me at admin@manipef1.com

I'll give it a shot then. :D

Everyone should really update to the most recent version (Just upload the topicposters.php file again, as that's the only place that's changed), because this version fixes a bug, which let users get the topic name and posters in a topic that was hidden from them, if they new the topic id.

BTW, thanks ycl6! :D

Great MOD Manipe!

I have a question/request though. Instead of opening a new window when clicking on a number in the "Replies" row, how about opening a window when you hover the mouse on a number and closing it when you move your mouse away? :)

"Topic calendar" MOD by Ptirhiik is using this kind of effect to show event info:

Sounds like a good idea, but it's unworkable.
The SQL database would be overloaded because it would mean that there would be 15 queries on every page, and that number would rise if the topics per page was higher.

Also the page would become astronomically large, because if topics had a lot of posters, it would be just too big for downloading with out high speed internet.

Thanks a million wGEric.

As it says on the MOD, this new version adds the link to the index page, so you can see how many users posted in a forum. Very useful if I may say so myself.

That won't be a problem, as all the users on my forum have high speed internet connections.

Can you in layman terms please explain to me, why it will require more queries whether one uses a "hover version" vs. a "regular version"? :)

My forum is only for my closest friends, so the number of users are very few, which is why I think a "hover version" is useful. Regarding layout, I can think up two solutions to the many-users-problem.

One solution could be to make a part hover part regular version, that displays the different users and their number of replies in X columns times Y rows (let the resolution decide the number of topic posters to be shown). If there are too many topic posters to be shown, then show a "hover window" with a message that more people have posted than the "hover version" is able to show, and that the users can click to open a new window with use a "regular version" instead of the "hover version". :D

The second solution could be to make a "hover version" that have scrollable capabilities like the "start --> Programs" menu in Windows that can scroll up- and downwards if there are to many items to be shown.

In case my ideas are too far-fetched for your liking, how hard would it be to change your script, so that it only functions like a "hover version" (without the columns/row or scrollable options)?

Well, the way I see it is that for viewforum.php or index.php, you would have to gather the information with the actual page, which means that you would have to have a seperate SQL query for each topic/forum. That means that there would be A LOT of retreiving data to do. It's uneconomical in my opinion when you can just click on the link, and wait (If you have high-speed internet, like your users) half a second for a window to pop up.

Also I don't have very much time on my hands, but maybe in the future (With the release of 3.0.0), I might be able to make what you have requested.

Also with what you have said, it would be necissary to have Javascript, as that would be the only way to make a hovering window, but PHPBB is optimised to be used accross all type of explorer.

I also believe that the vast majority of PhpBB users (Be it this forum, or others) do not have high-speed internet, and thus it would make making your request unuseful, except to a small amount of users.

But feel free to make it yourself, and I'll add it to the current MOD.

Link

Code: Select all

<a class="genmed" href="{U_TOPIC}" onclick="jump_to();return false;">
..doesn't work for me. The popup is closed, but the opener changes to login.php while I'm still logged in.
Clean phpBB 2.0.14 and several templates.

Has anyone got an idea how this can happen?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the session ids, but I don't know exactly.
