I don't think I've ever received one of those. Under what circumstances is such an error likely to occur? Or can it happen to anyone using 2.0.11 or under?

even before i made the mod, the error was rather infrequent. i believe it's caused by, among other things, spiders (such as the google bot) browsing your forum. i believe they get assigned new sessions for ea. page they visit, filling up the session table really really fast. people could also probably create a program to get new sessions really rapidly from your forum if they wanted to...

Isn't there a modification in the Knowledge Base, which makes it so that it makes it so that Google doesn't have those multiple sessions, or something along those lines? Is your modification based on this, and could I apply that modification instead and have the exact same effect? I mean, does your modification do the exact same thing?

i guess you're refering to this article which i didn't know about until you mentioned it (i don't check the KB very often). seeing as how i didn't know about that mod, it seems unlikely that this mod would be based off of that code (check the code in that mod if you don't believe me - they're rather dissimiler in terms of how they were written).

functionally, my mod and the code in that KB (atleast the first segment of code) do appear pretty similar. that mod deletes the oldest 50 sessions from session table, mine deletes all the guest sessions. that mod only works on MySQL (even if the if statement forcing the DB to be sql were removed, the query would still only work on MySQL) whereas mine should work on all DB types (because mine uses much more standardized SQL syntax).

so... take your pick. both seek to do the same thing, but in different ways.

I finally ran into this problem the other day. Since there was a 500 record limit on the Sessions table, when it was full, there was no way to create a new Session. Unfortunately this occurred while I was sleeping so my board was down for over 5 hours. I corrected the problem by removing the 500 record restriction on the Sessions table...

However, this MOD seems to be as good or better fix to removing the 500 record limit on the Sessions table. I just successfully installed it on my 2.0.19 board using EM with my heavily modded board without any problems whatsoever...

What a bonehead. Why are you spamming this phpBB Approved MOD with a link to your RC version???
